Hey I'm pretty knew to the forum but I was reading some posts earlier and started thinking about how we as fans almost seem to be content to look the other way.Bad decisions there is a blatant robbery in a fight and we will be outraged for a while but then say things like "well I don't think he won that fight . But history shows he got the win For example earlier I was trying to pick my pound for pound top 10 and I was looking at where to place canelo and golovkin and in my head I was thinking . Well I believe ggg won both fights But canelo got the nod 2nd time so he has to go higher doesnt he .. Like my brain is just happy to forget about it because of what the judges said Who knows how many of the great fighters of the past got highly disputable decisions just because they were a bigger name and now them results are just lost to history Another example would be drug cheats... I grew up loving Roy Jones, Shane mosley James toney and if anyone asked me about them I'd probably regail people with stories about how they are some of my favourite fighters and how we might not see fighters of their calibre again . But all 3 were popped for drugs and in my head I'm just sort of happy to gloss over it because they were just that good.. Roy especially who was incredible . Then I sorta got angry about it and thought why am I blatantly ignoring the fact that he was on performance enhancers My questions would be does anyone else feel the same and is there anything that can be done to clear up all corruption in the sport and make sure there is a level playing field... Very sorry if this conversation goes all over the place.. I had these random musings sorta all at once
Good post. Any human institution or enterprise is vulnerable to corruption and when there's as much cash floating around and lack of any real supervision as in boxing then that risk is magnified. So a part of me is apathetic because I get the feeling it will always be with us alongside death and taxes. Boxing is entertainment and you get drawn to the sport for the spectacle, not to try to clean it up. So if there's a question mark over a fight or decision but the next event is fast approaching and you're looking forward to it you go with the flow. I know I'm guilty of this, to an extent I think it's human nature not to look overlong at something until it directly affects you. As to what could be done? I guess voting with your wallet is the first step. I stopped watching it for some time after there were bad injuries and poor care taken of the fighters.
bad decisions are inevitable, they rely on human opinion on an art form, so interpretations will be all over the place. eventually they find their proper spot in the complete story. i thought canelo won second fight and would win a 3rd more decisively, so i rank them from that viewpoint. as time passes, their performances will prove who was closer in their rankings to how it all played out.
Corruption in boxin happen's a lot . Lennox Lewis v Holyfield first fight Holyfield got da decision but Lewis won , so everyone who had a wager money's for Lewis Lost . To me that's match fixing , this should be a crime as it is one . But somehow they get away with it .
I didn't even think about that... Some facets of the sport are awful ...I'm struggling to remember the name of the guy who fought his heart of vs Mike perez and had his career ended . I don't think they were provided with any sort of Medical fees Which is horrible to think about. But yes the sport has this way of just drawing you back in.. . Think it was the night or marquez vs pacman 3..i swore I was done with boxing and everything that came with it... Marquez being my all time favourite, I had money on him to win a decision and afterwards I don't think I put out for the Mrs because I was that pissed off haha .. But low and behold . Few months later I'm back watching whatever fight was on cheering away regardless of the fact a fighter who deserved their win may lose because someone else has the money behind them .
