I love a lot of things about the boxing, the skill, wars and knockouts. I love the trash talking, The intensity, The moments when a fighter is looking to be out and he fights back to win the fight. That is what makes this sport great, whether it's defensive fighters like Foyd or Whitaker displaying great skill or warriors such as Holyfield looking finished against Riddick Bowe only to fight back and make it to the end of the fight. Boxing is such a diverse sport that can be appreciated in many ways, by the rich history that surrounds it or the stories of each individual themselves, that's why i am a boxing fan today and will be in the future.
Because we are less evolved than we care to admit. That's why obsolete life skills (sports in general) still interest us tremendously.
I like to watch the competition. I also like to to know the back stories of the fighters so I get more emotionally involved... I don't really care to watch 2 guys I don't know fight (unless it's a barn burner). Sometimes I do watch boxing and feel like *THAT was awesome!* then other times I watch boxing, and feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life. Of course this is mainly based on how exciting the matches were, and if I had any connection to the fighters.
Everything people have already said is true Violence,Ultimate test, skill, history, heart ,and wars. But there is more to it than that this may sound weird but in boxing people can become larger than life characters, legends that will never die. Boxing is special because it's as close to the epic battles we imagined as young children that we will ever have.
Me & my buds enjoy watching fights as a drinking game: Every time a fighter slips on the center advertising logo, you have to hoist one. Sometimes after a good night of fights, no one can even drive home. -------- Other times we bet on which judge will be the most corrupt. It can be very exciting !
the same reason we used to videotape and crowd around people fighting in school. we want to see people get beat up, win, or just see a good fight.
This video sums up why i love boxing [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBSf9qOq0uA&feature=my_liked_videos&list=LLSbWgkmT8CslLSPajmeftcQ[/ame]
Because although it can be brutal and voilent it can also be beautiful elegant and an art "It's a beautiful thing bieng able to hit a man and him not bieng able to hit you back"
I think its simply the toughest sport in the world and for that reason alone people want to see it. On a separate note - there are many reasons but here are my top 3 for each code Pro Boxing 1- To see if somebody can survive a ko 2- Because of the fascination of the theatrics employed by either fighter to hype the fight 3- Tribal interests Amateur Boxing 1- Tribal (think Olympics) 2- Genuine Boxing fans (who go to the small hall shows) 3- bonus fans - those who joined boxing clubs (for keep fit / boxecise) to keep fit but indirectly have a new found admiration for amateur boxing because of their admiration for the training alone.
for sports entertainment. whether its a brawl between brawlers/punchers, or a tactical technician fight between skilled boxers. Its all entertainment.
