Do you think that Johnson would have outlasted a peak Jeffries to the finish?

If Fitz , two months off 39 years old and scaling 172 lbs , could turn Jeffries face into raw hamburger, breaking his nose and cutting deep lacerations under and above both eyes ,what would a prime Ali at 212lbs do to him? Thats 40 lbs heavier than, Fitz, 3 inches taller, three times as fast, with a far better chin.
Jeffries would be blind after about 10 rds, eyes shut, face , a mass of contusions.
Jeffries could not beat Ali over ANY distance ,because his facial tissue would not take the punishment inflicted upon it.
Ali had a great chin ,he could take Jeffries punch and hit him three times in reply.
    It would be a crucifixion.

I agree to a large degree with the thread starter. There are some very unrealistic views of what old timers could do against more modern fighters.

For example, saying that Jeffries would beat Ali... A guy who had to take a lot of punishment to dispose of guys like Corbett and Fitz. I mean, Bob Foster would very likely beat Jeffries.

Guys who made their name beating up on MWs and LHWs would somehow beat very skillful fighters at over 200 lbs. To believe that one have to completely ignore the fact that Charles was the last LHW champion to move up and take the HW title without putting on a lot of muscle mass through modern training and nutrition. That's some 60 years ago. Up to then prominent LHWs frequently moved up to HW to become at least top contenders. That has happened very rarely for the last half decade.

Except Ali had parkinsons, was brain damaged, had been in endless wars, and Jeffries was fresh as a daisy, albeit slower. Try Ali-Frazier :yep

Saying Jeffries would beat Ali requires quite a lot of faith in his abilities which can't truly be proven.

45 rounds or a fight to the finish? Perhaps he could but one would have to assume that Ali too could pace himself for such a battle. Jeffries by all accounts did not exactly put on Frazier-like pressure.

It's not just a case of "old school fighters vs modern fighter", it's a case of possibly the greatest heavyweight of all time vs the best of his time.

Also, why does some take it for granted that Ali couldn't stop Jeffries? Especially with the gloves of the day. I mean, he stopped Foreman, Bonavena, Liston, Frazier etc, but somehow it's a given that he couldn't stop Jeffries who was badly busted up Corbett, Fitz, Sharkey etc.

So you agree that the ali of his last 2 fights doesnt beat prime jeffries.

So, at which stage does Ali beat him, The Spinks fights or earlier?
