The fight was ready to go 2 years ago, but HBO dropped the fight and Hopkins faced Tarver. Hopkins has been demanding too much, it's been 2 years since RJJ agreed to a 50-50 split. And to the casual fan, RJJ is still the bigger name.
Greed and ego. If Jones' offer of 60/40 was legitimate, then I blame Hopkins. He should have accepted that split to get Roy in the ring and gain his revenge. The worst part is that Jones was vulnerable around 2002/03, when the fight would have happened. In the now-legendary interview, Hopkins said he wanted parity, which was foolish. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I blame him if it was that clearcut. Bernard didn't deserve parity.
Roy Jones "60/40 I kick yo ass, 60/40 you get yo ass kicked, 60/40 I kick yo ass, I'm the light heavyweight champ" Bernard Hopkins "WHO I AM ROY? WHO I AM?" That's pretty much it verbatim.
Both wanted it but couldn't agree on a deal, clearly. I'm a huge fan of both but the truth is this, Roy DID deserve more than Hopkins, he was the undisputed champion at Light Middleweight and Hopkins was coming to him, also Roy ALREADY beat Hopkins before so he had nothing to gain here but A LOT to lose so why doesn't he deserve more?
