Why do you think Manny Pacquiao never went back down to 140?

I think he could've been a ko machine if he fought there against guys his own size, I don't get why he never went back after the Hatton fight.

Like heavyweight, welterweight is historically a glamour division. Glamour division means more high profile fights and bigger purses. To me, the welterweight division tends to be the most interesting because the fighters there tend to be an optimal blend of speed and power.

I do wish that Pacquiao had campaigned at light welterweight, though. I believe that he would have straight decapitated fools there like he did Ricky and ruled for as long as he was there.

Apart from Hatton can you name any big names at 140 since? Bradley? Fought and beat him at WW.

Rios, Marquez, Algieri and Bradley moved up in weight to challenge him. So it shows that it was most likely about the money.
147 and 154 have had the biggest PPV's.

And i don´t think Manny wanted to make weight. At 147 he could just train and loose a few pounds before the weigh in.
They held the Algieri fight at a catchweight to slowly move back down. But those ideas were scrapped.

Ricky Hatton Pac KOs EVERYONE at 140. 40 year old Pac schools everyone and probably stops half of them.

And apart of that Hatton was never the same since the Collazo fight, even Mayweather knocked him out that tells you everything, so it was logical Pacquiao was going to get him early

140 is really a stepping stone division no one truly great has stayed there that long since the Tszyu.

Because 140 is kind of an armpit of the boxing’s middle divisions.

Money. Bradley probably would’ve retired undefeated if he stayed at 140, but the money at 147 was too much to turn down.

Also, if PAC went back down to 140 it would’ve hurt his legacy, since 140 like cruiserweight is a weak division, so a fighter can only go so far in these divisions.

Mayweather knocked him out at 147. Hatton was u defeated and Lineal champ at 140.

Pac was gonna get Hatton at any time of his career, tailor made.
