Is it because these guys fought each other? Monzons competition or that monzon had a pretty boring style?

Yes, it's because those guys fought each other.

And three of them were yanks.

He was before their time really. Benitez doesn't even get credit he deserves and he earned his stripes.

The great guys Monzon beat where at the tail end of their careers, although that should not be held against him.
But the main reason is the Shotgun only fought once in the USA as champ and was a genuine "world" champion as he fought all over the world.
It's a whole other thread but not fighting in the US always hurts a fighter's legacy in the way people view boxing nowadays.
    Sad in Monzon's case.

    This all the way.

    Monzon's off chronologically.

    I'm a fan of the fab 5.

I consider Monzon the greatest middleweight ever. I think it's a combination of what the previous posters said, first it's not their generation and second he only fought once in 'merica.

he was before their time. it was a generational circumstance that 'created' the 'fab 4'. That being said, Monzon was arguably the best MW since SRR

Monzon was not the same era . . . the better question would be about Benitez.

Monzon gets mad respect . . . top 3 MW . . . perhaps the best ever. unlike MMH he never had his Tommy, SRL, or Duran . . . the 80s was the pinnacle of boxing . . . if it was him rather than MMH he would be mentioned on these boards just as much

monzon is before their time, and those 5 all fought each other. Monzon wasn't the ***iest boxer to watch but he'd probably beat all those guys except hagler which could go either way.
