Why does 1 loss "end" a career?

Undefeated records are a problem. Young prospects are either fed bums and even if someone gives them a good fight the score cards are usually rigged. This gives boxing a bad name.

Careers are not ended on one single loss. That is merely an attempt to be overly dramatic.

Not only commentators, but we got alot of guys on this site that like to be overly dramatic, as well.

Hamed's career ended with single loss.

But other than that I can't think of any examples.

Too many Gold or Silver medal winners getting fed easy touches.

Then after being fed easy touches 20+ fights and still not having a jab worth mentioning, they get beat, and having not had hard scraps where it could go eaither way are not up to it mentally...Then they are not thrown back into the water but hang around dwelling on it for the months to a year, it takes to get a new fight.

In the old days of single line of contenders you had to beat you r way up, and beat up everyone to stay a top ten contender.
You fought the One and Only Champ.
You did not pick and chose which champ you thought you could beat, like today.

To fight a belt champ you need the 0 in order to have a name in that that 0, includes few if any contenders...to fight the Real Champ old days, you just had to make good any loses by beating up more and better men.

It's stupid I think as long as a figter is competitive heshould get the big shots! I mea lke even though Zab has lost a fe now I wouldn't be shocked if he beat any of the big boys now.

There is some truth to this in a lot of fans eyes. Just come to this site after a fighter loses, and sometimes if he wins, and watch people write a fighter off. However, with the good fights being made lately that might be changing a bit. Look at all the fighters coming off a recent loss or losses and getting back in big fights. Judah, Margarito, Kessler, Hopkins, Taylor, Barerra,Mosley and so on. As long as promoters put good fights on people are happy even if a fighter is undefeated or not.

Maybe he meant his career as pound for pound which is the only thing that can take a serious blow from a loss. But even then it could be regained, Pacqiou is a pound for pound and he has losses, so does JMM. I think the only way for your career to be over is if you are undfeated and a first loss seriously makes you loose it mentally. Sounds like this is happening to Hatton at the moment, hopes he comes back stronger.

I've seen guys get knocked out and come back but are never the same. Fact is, we won't know till he steps back in the ring.

I understand it the argument you are making , i think saying ' his career is in jeopardy is pathetic' , but a loss these days should mean more than in Robinson's and Pep's day , the schedule back then makes today's fighters look like novices even at the end of their career. Back then, fighter could maybe fight twice a week , and fighting 3 times a month was not outta the ordinary. These days a fighter gets proper rest and a proper diet , the fighters of the past were ultimate warriors , they never complained at their schedule.

Still though , i agree that far too much is made of a loss today , it is a bit ridiculus

  14. :good And im sick of Boxers, and Promoters padding their fighters records by fighting Bums and Tomato cans just so an 0 on the record looks good:-(**** that i would rather see 2 people of equal talent in the ring:deal i don't give a **** if a fighter loses, as long as he puts his best effort into the fight/..
