Why does Ben Shalom live rent free inside Frank Smiths head

Our fellow poster Ash makes a fair point though. Their behaviours are childlike. Let’s hope the money doesn’t run out for messers Hearn and Smith etc because let’s be honest if it did, they wouldn’t last 10 seconds working for a reputable private sector company in pretty much any type of role, let alone an executive one. Would be laughed out the door.

 

Honestly I think it's a meaningless comparison. I don't think the CEO of HSBC or GSK would be especially good boxing promoters, nor would I judge them on that.

To engage with the point though: Do I see Eddie Hearn or Frank Smith as a head of division of a FTSE 100 company with thousands of employees? No, of course not. They're specialists in sport promotion, running a significant company in terms of impact, but small compared to FTSE 100 levels.

What I think is certain is that if they left Matchroom, they would be in demand in other sport promotion / entertainment companies, e.g. the likes of AEG, or as senior employees of a breakaway sporting tour like LIV Golf or the European Super League.

In different times, I could easily see Hearn as a salesman or trader at an investment bank, commodities broker, or reinsurance. (Before anyone mocks, read up on how newly empowered investment banks found traders after the Big Bang in 1986. He'd have fit right in.)

 

What is a meaningless comparison is comparing the CEO of HSBC to the CEO of Matchroom.

I never mentioned FTSE 100 companies and the original point was about behaviours anyway. Let’s move on, enjoy Crawford on Saturday night.

I should have said, I'm actually saying it because of the talk in this thread of Frank Smith fighting Shalom. I can't imagine him fighting anyone.

Might not be for everyone but given how rents are in London these days maybe a rent free life in Frank Smiths head is a savvy option? Judging by his interviews at least there's plenty of room in there.
