Why does Bika go out of his way to fight a hard, dangerous opponent like Andrade?

He could have milked the Contender win for years, KO ing chinless wonders, shutting out bumbs or fighting non top 10/15/20, less dangerous opponents for 2-3 years in the USA, in front of packed houses. But no...Bika had to fight the best he could get...everyone better than Andrade being already booked for a belt shot one way or another, or, in the case of Mundine, refusing to fight anyone decent.

So why is he doing it? Does he want a 4th title shot? Or is he just NUTS? He must realise how dangerous Andrade's pressure and power are. He must know this guy will not quit and hunt him down all the way to the last bell. Why is Bika doing this? Clearly he must think not just that he could win, but also that he would win. After all, a loss straight after Contender would take a lot of the shine off his name in the USA, to casual fans.

Bika wants another shot and he knows that Andrade is a respectable opponent whom he doesn't have to chase around and can look good against.

Well, as I said, to me this suggest he will be gunning for that title even if it kills him! Money, "L"'s on his resume...they seem not to matter - he just wants to prove he can become a World Champion! How many others, in his position (ain't getting younger or much better) would do the same after winning the Contender, after 3 failed title shots? Nuts or guts?

Bika will fight anyone anywhere. That's why I give Calzaghe some credit for beating him. Bika is a solid fighter, with good power and a good chin. And he is aggressive as hell.

Lots of fighters stand to make a ton of money fighting tough opponents and DON'T fight them. So it's not just money.

Yeah, lots of money in this one fight...and if he loses...not so much money in all the other fights after this one...c.f. less money in his first non-Andrade post-Contender fight, and almost as much in all the others for he would still be on a win...in the end, he might have made more money the second route...KOing guys like Banks, say.

    Here's how i see it.

Boxing is a career. As a fighter's manager who is making a percentage, you have to weigh the pro's and con's of every decision and take them into account. You estimate the chances that your fighter could win and compare them to how much money could be generated if he wins, how much money can still be generated if he loses, how much money can be generated if he doesn't take the fight, and how much money he is making for the fight itself.

Personally I believe that no fighter in the world accepts or refuses a fight out of fear. Some fighters/managers are more conservative when evaluating their chances of winning than others but really in general I think they all have approximately the same amount of courage.

We don't know Bika's purse for this fight but since its on a GBP a big card I would assume that its a pretty big purse for a guy like Bika, but this is just speculation. What we do know is that its on the undercard of JMM-Pacquiao and that alot of people will be watching, so a good result for Bika could be huge, giving Bika alot of exposure and a win over a guy like Andrade can set Bika up for a title shot. On the otherhand, a loss on the world stage is better than a series of wins over tomato cans on espn2. Especially if its a loss in an exciting fight (which this one promises to be) in which case the exposure might land Bika a few more undercard fights.

Also, if you look at recent results, Bika gave Calzaghe a tough fight, Kessler totally dominated Andrade, and then Calzaghe beat Kessler. Its easy to see why Bika's team would think he has a very decent shot at beating Andrade. He knows Andrade will be there to get hit which is what Bika needs in an opponent.

imo, in the same position as Bika, any manager would've jumped at this opportunity.

Andrade is not that dangerous. He has very little in terms of skill or defense. He's a wild swinging fighter who likes to block punches with his face. Bika will beat him with relative ease.:deal
