    Indeed

Many people were involved in scuppering the fight

If Beterbiev had a promotion company like Matchroom behind him he would have been a big star esp in the UK

I will take your word for it, I failed to pay much attention to why it felt like neither had heard of the other, back then. Probably cause nobody made a stink about it, like it’s done to other fighters.

Putting all the politics aside, OG Bob openly admitting he had no interest in making the fight etc. let's just assume Bivol ducked Beterbiev even though both are fearless road warriors and neither are the ducking type

Both would've earned relative peanuts for fighting each other in a unification match up prior to the Saudis involvement

Beterbiev and Gvozdyk, both of whom are or were big punching KO artists, earned $1.5 million for facing prime versions of each other in a unification match up. Haney earned what they did combined for facing a completely washed inactive way smaller Linares despite the fact Haney had only beaten a shot to high heaven inactive way smaller 39 y/o Gamboa going into that fight

Clenelo earns that much per minute (slight exaggeration but you get my point) regardless of who the opponent is and he has the safety net in place of knowing he has the judges in his pocket regardless of who he fights too, so when he pulls the duck lack of financial reward is never an issue for him and the risk of losing is far less than it is for damn near everyone else.

And of course, he shamelessly ducked GGG and aged him out for 4 more years again after his judges robbed GGG twice and he'd jousted industrial amounts of PEDs in his freckly ass

Clenelo cannot deal with slickness or that Eurasian heat and a Clenelo duck is always a duck born out of fear and cowardice :deal:

Bivol-Beterbiev happening 7 years after it should have is one of the biggest boxing tragedies and disgraces in modern day boxing.

I bet you they would have earned more than they did against any opponents they faced save Canelo.

Bivol was backed by mega promoter Matchroom, and Beterbiev was backed by mega promoter Top Rank.

People giving them a pass for not fighting each other for seven years is downright despicable, because basically you're excusing any fighter who doesn't fight the top dog in his division because it won't come with a mega payday.

This is PROFESSIONAL boxing. The sole aim is to get maximum profits. If one gets highest paydays by ducking his way to championships, then he's a very smart businessman.

Throughout my career, I would avoid risky fights and try to fill my pockets as much as possible. Money is more important than anything else.

Boxing is also a sport, and there are rules in this sport.

If money is all you care about then you don't deserve fans.

For once we agree. Laughable to defend not fighting each other because 2 unpopular fighters felt it was too much risk vs reward. What gold mines did Marquez barrera, morales get for their fights or the multitude of other top match ups. There is NO excuse for the 2 top fighters in a division to not fight for 7 years. WBC blocking? Good, drop the belt and fight.

Interesting to note, that Bivol was originally an email champion, and Beterbiev was the first active champion he beat in the ring, after 11 years. Most fighters would get criticized for that.
