Why does boxing have an 'off season' in August?

    I've noticed that there is usually a lack of fights in August early september. I remember Sky even saying that they were not showing fights during this period because it was the end of the boxing season.

    Is their a historical reason for this or is it tradition?

    its just the way it goes i guess man.

    Pavlik is fighitng in august and pov vs chagaev for the paper title
