Why does Boxing struggle to get a good coverage/following in England

I believe the answer is quite simple. It comes down to the personality of the fighter. Look at britain's most popular (or intriging) fighters with mainstream britain:

Bruno - likeable, friendly came across a bit thick but was endearing
Eubank - loud and arrogant
Naz - louder and more arrogant
Hatton - likeable 'bloke down the pub' persona

Love them or hate them, everyone knew who they were. If fighters get known by the mainstream then they attract media coverage. Newspapers write about them because they are considered celebrities. Mainstream are only interested in watching a fight if they know who the fighter is and therefore care about the result.

The answer therefore does not rely on the boxer's skill but their personality. If you want to understand the british mentality just look at Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards. Hugely popular but **** skier.

Fighters need to get on mainstream tv programes like celebrity big brother, loose women, ant & dec show etc etc. Get known in the mainstream and the media will follow.
