If JMM won't be coming back @135, Rios will be the best there.. Unless Gamboa beats him.. :think I can see Khan matching up well with the guys @140 and @147.. But I can't see the guys @135 giving Khan any problem.. :bart The lightweights should just stay there and wait for someone to clear the Light Welterweight Division..
Amir khan never stops telling anyone who will listen about his imminent moving up to 147. So what's your problem?
Because Khan is a name opponent that can create a big money fight whilst also being extremely overrated and garbage in reality. Brook knows that Khan is terrible and that he can brutally and embarrassingly KO him, but the public, particularly the British sheep, will heavily favor Khan therefore creating an "upset" victory that propels Brook even higher.
I don't think Kell Brook beats any of the top welters at the minute. Matt Hatton is a half decent domestic level fighter at most, I can't take anything from that fight last night as it was such a lopsided match-up. I just picture a 147 lb Cotto eating Kell Brook alive ... or an Ortiz, Margo or ****, even Berto. Nevermind the big dogs of Pac and Mayweather. His next fight should be Malignaggi, it's a name opponent he would beat and get him some recognition Stateside. Then possibly Alexander, Maidana, Bradley or a welterweight Khan.
Maybe the "proper" fans do understand Boxing, but the majority of British Boxing fans overlook the guys they have that actually have Chins and can fight such as Calzaghe and Froch and instead get behind China Chinned Hype Jobs like Khan and Haye.
Far too much of a sweeping generalisation there MM.:nono Never really bought into Haye and certainly always been aware of Khan's many limitations.Kell Brook is fun on ESB and that's all I'll say about him. Some of us are just boxing fans and where we live doesn't come into it.
Where does Amir stand on his previous threat to never deal with Matchroom again Rico? Am I right in thinking it's been brushed under the carpet?
I am not tarring you all with the same brush as evidenced by the fact that I said "the majority of British Boxing fans", not all. There are more than a few British posters here with Boxing knowledge who, as you said, don't view every fight through a nationalistic lens, but you have to agree that the majority do. It is why jokes like Khan and Haye become hyped in the first place, because nobody who is simply viewing them as a fighter rather than a national hero would see that much upside in either.
Compare the Brit forum to this place ... it is night and day and makes general look like the joke it is. The reason why Brit fans get behind Haye, Khan, Froch, Calzaghe, whoever ... is because those are the best fighters we have, simple as that. Khan was an olympic success who has seen equal success in the top levels of the professional game. Haye is a man who fast tracked his career to unifying the CW division before stepping up to be a titlist at HW and later stood right in front of Wlad Klitschko for 12 rounds and came out with barely a scratch ... other than a broken toe.
There is evidence all over the place of people falling head over heels in love with a guy because the fighter's dad did a few shifts in a certain country e.g Bute,Klitschkos,Abraham and so on.But if someone buys into a guy just because of where they're from and become blinkered regarding the ability of the fighter, then that suggests all that really matters is region and not skill.I know you made a distinction but there are many who always lump people from the same country into the same basket. Someone who can't see past a fighter because of where they're from(or more frequently, where they've stopped off for a while!) are a liability and I would hope they were a minority, but you've been here longer than me so I'll take your word for it. I do admit I like Ricky Burns because he's from my neck of the woods but I'm the first to admit he does have limits.
Khan has seen equal pro success? Hell no, not even close. He has beaten exactly one top fighter in his pro run, Maidana, and it is very evident that Maidana, once he stopped beating up on South American cab drivers, was highly overrated in terms of Boxing ability and punching power. In addition to that he has been put on ***** Street by Feather Fisted bums and brutally KOed in a matter of seconds by a journeyman who also has proven to have overrated power. He got walked down and beat up by Peterson, who is no world beater, and when his backpedaling and amateur-esque flurrying did not work he had no Plan B. Khan sucks and has one of the worst Chins I have seen in over 20 years of watching Boxing. His pro success does not and will never measure up to his amateur success. As for Haye, I am no deluded Klit Klown either, and I am not going to give him credit for standing stationary and making the most overrated Jab in the history of Boxing whiff over and over. Sorry, if Haye wanted credit he should have put on the same defensive show but then bothered to throw more than the same overhand right at a rate of about a dozen punches a round because then he might have been able to shatter Wlad's China Chin. Too bad he was more worried about protecting his own Fragile Glass Mandible.
