Population wise, the UK is about 1/5 the size of the US.

The UK is must more densely populated than America.

All American states have their own government too. In a sense they have their own head of state(Governor).

So in a sense, every state is a quasi independent country aswell.

Infact seperate states of America and incredibly similiar to the situation Wales has.

Travelling to England to fight if you are from Wales means nothing distance wise. He was never more than an half hour away from any fight venue in the UK. Calzaghe was notorious for spending as little time in the gym as he could. He would get in and get out in in little over an hour. He did most of his training running up mountains.
Team Elite never seem to surface when the facts are on display.

The thing that really bugs me is that Joe went to America and Denmark in his career whilst undefeated yet is bagged on because he fought at home for the majority of his career yet Jones did the same not fighting abroad til Danny Green, Denis Lebedev and Pawel Glazewski

Why do all of you hardcore Calzaghe fans hate Jones so much?

    Different set of circumstances.

Joe was relatively unknown outside of Europe, when he was peak. He was a nobody really, until he beat Lacy in 2006, at 34 years of age. By the time he finally arrived in America in 2008, Hop was 43 and Roy was 40. He should have gone over a lot sooner than he did. He said for years that he was willing to move upto 175, because it was too hard to make 168. He said for years that he craved the big fights etc. Yet he didn't move up in weight, or fight in the U.S. until he was 36 in 2008. He turned pro in 93, and it took him 15 years to get to the States. That's why he gets criticism.

Roy on the other hand, has the luxury of being American. Nearly all of the biggest fights are held in America. Roy simply never needed to travel outside of the U.S. He fought on HBO, and had big fights in Vegas and New York. He was a four weight world champion, and was considered the best fighter on the planet for around 9 years. Joe on the other hand, was a great fighter, but hardly anybody knew who he was in America, because he stayed in Europe defending his WBO belt.

The only reason Roy has recently travelled abroad to face those fighters, is because he's no longer the man, and he's on a mission to gain a CW belt. He doesn't have the power he once had, and he'll literally fight anywhere to try and get a version of that title before he retires. Most of the best Cruisers in the world, are based outside of the U.S. so Roy has been forced to travel to their back yard. But to be honest, it's just an excuse to prolong his career. He never gave a seconds thought towards the CW division, when he went up to heavy. He's just finding it too hard to let go and retire.

So I can understand your point of view, but when Roy travelled to fight those guys, he'd already accomplished everything he could. But when Joe finally travelled to the U.S. it was too late. He'd already wasted his best years of his career, fighting in a weak division, and defending a belt for 9 years, that nobody cared about or respected.

    Regards, Loudon.

Because they know that a peak version of Roy, would have given him a spanking!

    How's it going?

Jones resume is open to criticism, but its better than Calzaghe's.

Also Jones always looked amazing when he was whupping bums, whereas Calzaghe had an ugly style that was less pleasing to watch. In a spectator sport like boxing this is a relevant point. If you look good when you let your hands go its a big plus.

Out of interest, what offers to fight in the US did Calzaghe get in his prime years?

While Calzaghe was fighting Tocker Pudwill, Jones was preparing to take on John Ruiz to become the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years. Enough said.
