Didn't Pascal move to Canada with his parents at the age of 4? You can make a case for Bute but to say Pascal isn't a Canadian (even though he has his citizenship, grew up as a child surrounded by Canadian culture) is ridiculous. Gatti was raised in Canada too. How ******ed is it to say you aren't Canadian because you weren't born there? In Pascals case, 4 years removed. atsch Ben Johnson and Donovon Bailey born in Jamaica, Bruny Surin born in Haiti, many of our great athletes were born elsewhere but moved to Canada at a young age, got their citizenship and worked their way to the top in this country with the help of Canadian coaches. All these guys would proudly proclaim they are Canadians.
Ok, and what point were you trying to make, exactly? Neither of those two guys is an immigrant. :think:think
I know on Wiki it says Gatti was born in Italy, but I was watching a interview with Gatti some time ago... And he said he was "BORN" in Canada... So I'm kind of scratching my head here. But no the less, Gatti si still ITALIAN, born in Canada or not.
Bute has trained by a Canadian coach, in Canadian gyms with Canadian equipment. He's been fighting in Canadian arenas, with Canadian fans supporting him. He lived there for 8-9 years and now has both Romanian an Canadian citizenship. So as far as I'm concerned (a Romanian) Canada has earned their right to claim that it is their own. Because his is a product of Canadian Professional Boxing coming from a background of Romanian Amateur Boxing, and right now is fighting at Professionals.
:rofl using canadian equipment (made in china) now makes you canadian? :rofl ....are all english international football players now italian as they have an italian coach?
he was born in romania with romanian parents....the end. the chinese gym equipment, the canadian coach has no bearing on his blood or place of birth
They made him the boxer he is, let me put it this way so you understand better. We're talking about Bute the pro boxer, not Bute the personality not Bute the Amateur boxer. He's born and raise in Romania by his parents who are Romanians. So they get credit for his behavior, god manner, humility, personality etc. He has start boxing and trained as an amateur in Romania. So Romania gets credit for his amateur career and his foundations and bases as a boxer. He trained and become a Pro and a World Champion in Canada and now his career is supported by Canadians fans mostly, so Canada get credit for his Pro Career. So even if they cannot call him Canadian ( they can call him Canadian Citizen tho) because he is still Romanian, they surly could call him Canadian World Champion.
so you'll let go of the ''lennox is canadian'' rubbish since he was born and raised in england (until 12) and was based their his entire pro career?
It's more the blood than the place of birth. If you borne in a shuttle in space that doesn't makes you an extra-terrestrial .
funnily enough i have a friend called amy who was born over the atlantic on a plane...but shes british.
