I've heard that Canelo does weights as part of his training and he has more upper body muscle than he needs imo. Do you think this is why he gasses? I mean he doesn't seem to be lazy when it comes to training. I mean his work rate is always pitiful and he gives away rounds. If he let his hands go and applied pressure consistently, he'd be a real threat. But the way he fights now, I'd say hes hype.
I always assumed that he tried to box Mayweather because he knew he'd get KOd if he tried to apply pressure. I mean he couldn't possibly be that stupid. He knew applying pressure was his best bet but I think he didn't do it because his stamina is so poor (the catchweight didn't help him either).
Yeah thats what I was thinking. Why even maintain all that upper body muscle. Does it even contribute to his power?
I know it sounds funny but I was suggesting that he basically gets KOd because hes so tired. I really think thats why he didn't go for it like he should have. That or he and his team are the biggest dumbasses in the history of boxing.
I did not see him go into the Mayweather fight as a pressure fighter, and then abandon his plan and try to outbox Floyd. He appeared to try to outbox Floyd from the beginning. Why he is a boxer and not a pressure fighter is another question. I don't know the reason, except that it seems to have worked for him. In my opinion he is probably the best boxer in Mexico, with the possible exception of the aging Marquez, and is outstanding for being able to handle the American style of boxing (he outboxed Trout) as well as the Mexican style (he demolished Lopez and Angulo).
He didn't gas horribly fast in his last fight, but he's still not optimizing his stamina. IMO he doesn't have enough aerobic activity in his training regimen. Increasing it would help him make weight at LMW and help his stamina. It probably wouldn't even take a drastic increase to make the difference.
Regarding the Floyd fight, he was horribly drained. Thats why he had no pop or spring in his step and couldnt take initiative. He was literally carried to IV after weigh in. Apparently not many people are aware of this. Rather not get into the whole Floyd/Canelo thing again, but still you cant judge his stamina or fitness at 155 by his performance at 152. He couldnt even make weight vs Angulo, it had to be upped right before the fight. He should really be fighting at 160, not 154 to be perfectly honest.
i think he is draining too much to make 154. thick skull, thick bones. he definitely looks bigger than cotto to me.
Please don't start this rumor. You're a good poster, so Im going to assume you just dont know what you're talking about. There was no IV involved in the fight. He wasnt carried off to an IV. It's simply not true.
Stamina has improved more his last fight he was throwing bombs from the get go and carried his power till the stoppage. Still not amazing stamina but Angulo was taken a back from it , they expected more of a rest from Canelo so Angulo could unload on him and it backfired on Hunter, more of an arregesive approach was needed from rd 1 from Perro but Hunter was too busy preaching his bull**** and not respecting Canelos ability to take some power and also smash the shades of shite out of Angulo and still be moving after rd 6. Didn't they bring Cotto's last coach in for S&C ? Also think his bulk is problem but maybe the change workout is helping.
