Why does Chad Dawson not fight at SMW?

I only said that because I knew you lot would get your little panties in a twist ;)

I can only ask why a guy would build up to fight in such a shitty division. Either for money or an easy path, they can be the only reasons. He'd get much more credit if he dominated the supermiddle division, with names such as Kessler, Bute, Taylor and Pavlik in the near future. Wouldn't be short of cash either...

He is doing what is right according to risk/reward! Why fight dangerous underrated dangerous fighters at SMW, and get little credit for a good performance if you lose and still little if you win, when you can fight overrated have-been NAMES at LHW and get a lot of credit for a win? Obviously, if Dawson really wanted to prove he was the best, he'd compete at SMW, or, at least at MW...but he is more interested in money and becoming overrated in America than in facing hard challenges and risking a loss...

He doesn't fight at SMW because that division sucks and there's no money to be made in that division - especially by American SMW.

Don't act like the SMW division is the best division ... last year was the first year that SMW actually got pub in a while ... there hasn't been any buzz about that division in the US since Toney v Jones jr.

    You're off your rocker!

Historically, the super middleweight division is ****! It was invented a little over 20 years ago as a resting place for overweight middleweights and a starting point for up-and-coming light heavies.

The historical significance of the division is on par with the historical signficance of Bob Meusel's role with the 1927 Yankees.

Chad had a hard time making 168 and his body is perfect for lt heavy.

I have been watching him since his pro debut and this is where he needs to be imo.

Chad will beat Glen Johnson and then bust up Tarver before going for the lineal Championship.

There is PLENTY of money to be made...it's just that you have to work harder for it and some of these European fighter would have to stop being underrated whilst some of these US fighters would have to stop being overrated - not so easy to pull off if European fighters find it so hard to get a fight in the USA against hyped overrated Americans. But...if that were to change...

I think he'd rather get paid bigger money to fight guys at middle or super middle than fight over the hill guys at lt heavy.

Too bad his body is telling him to park his ass at 175.

Dawson has stated that he will move down to 168 if he can't get any big names at 175 like Jones or Hopkins. Once he gets to 168 he will clean out the division.:deal

I read an interview with him a couple of weeks ago in which he said he can EASILY make 168. The fact that he STARTS a training camp at 170 makes the claim that it's hard for him to make 168 ridiculous, I'm sure you'll agree!:good

Well... Hopkins fight between 168 and 175, Jones' looking to fight at 168, Calzaghe might return, Bute, Mundine, Kessler, Taylor, Miranda, Pavlik in a few fights, Froch, Pascal, Inkin, Andrade, Bika, Brahmer, Lacy, Pascal are fighting at 168... Green retired, Erdei only fights in Europe, Tarver, Woods and Johnson are not getting any younger...

So yes, Dawson should definitely fight at 168 which is better for his phisichal abilities, his suspect chin and speed.

Multi-division champs rarely moving BACK in weight to win another title but Dawson should do just that.

Dawson held regional belts at 160, 168, and 175 ... he couldve had a title shot at 168 if he chose to.

He beat some pretty decent fighters ... I watched him a few times when I had ShowTime..

He's fast, he's very strong, and slick ...

    Who cares?

All that matters is who is in the division right now. Right now it is home to a number of talented fighters, whereas LHW is home to boxings OAP club

I cannot wait to see Chad at 168. I think it's his ideal weight and I think he'd be great there!:good

Dawson is only 25. He's got a bright future.
