Why does Dana White hate Steve Mazzaghatti so much? For the 2nd time in recent months, I have heard Dana bad mouth Steve Mazzagatti, what is behind this?
Because even after Yamasaki's performance last night, Mazzagatti is still the worst ref ever in the UFC.
Because he's a fantastically **** ref and ridiculously inconsistent. Apart from Herb and Big John the rest are distinctly average.
I'm not disagreeing with you as such, I'm just unfamiliar with his terrible decisions or what he does wrong. Can you give some examples?
I still remember Yamasaki not stepping in when Trigg punted Hughes in the nuts. He stepped forward like "holy **** low blow!", with his arm extended, hesitated, and then stpeed back like "hope nobody saw that...". It was a disgrace and could have easily cost Hughes the fight if he were not an absolute machine.
Mir/Lesnar I - takes a point (after no warning) for one punch in the back of the head against Lesnar, before inexplicably making Lesnar tap about three times before he finally calls for Mir to release his leg. Burns/Johnson - Burns gets warned about five times about his open hand strikes and yet, when Johnson goes down from an obvious finger to the eye, suddenly they never happened and he awards Burns a TKO victory. These are the most egregious examples.
Hamill vs. Jones was also inexplicably bad officiating on Mazzagatti's part. Jones had Hamill in full mount for roughly two minutes while he rained down about three dozen unanswered elbow strikes and punches. Hamill was unable to defend himself because he was rocked and had a dislocated shoulder resulting from the throw that Jones used to get him to the ground. After breaking off his assault and looking up at Mazzagatti to give a non-verbal expression that read, "WTF? Why aren't you stopping this fight?", Jones resumed striking and landed three glazing 12-6 elbows. Mazzagatti pulled Jones off of Hamill and stopped the fight after asking Hamill, who is ****ing deaf, if he could continue. Mazzagatti then proceeds to DQ Jones. The issues here are that: 1. The fight should have been stopped way before the illegal blows landed. Hamill said afterwards that he couldn't continue because his shoulder was ****ed up from the legal throw. 2. It was ridiculous to make a ruling that the 12-6 elbows that landed after Hamill was already half-dead were the reason that he fight could not continue when he'd just been beaten bloody with several legal strikes. 3. Mazzagatti made his decision on whether or not Hamill could continue in the fight based on Hamill's lack of response to his spoken questions. Other Mazzagatti fails include: Cyborg vs. Baszler Kongo vs. Al Turk Varner vs. McCullough Doerksen vs. Macdonald Velasquez vs. Rothwell Gonzaga vs. Hendricks This isn't just a case of Dana White running his mouth. Mazzagatti has a long track record of bad officiating. The guy is ****.
