Why does Daniel Santos fight only once a year?

Since 2001, he has only fought once a year (with 2002 and 2004 being the exceptions where he fought twice ). Do any of you have an inkling as to why this is?

He's got a fight coming up against Sergio Martinez on 2-14-09 which is a good fight for him but I'm wondering if that's going to be the only time we'll see him in the ring in '09.

Just wish he was more active.

Because he is badly managed by the clown Don King. He came overhere in Montreal KO our local guy for the WBA belt. You could have seen in his eyes that he was so hungry.

For many top boxers, Santos is a too high risk/reward. A guy who KOed Margarito and do not draw attendance will always be avoided by top guys.

All DK fighters are quite inactive these days, DKP is declining big time.

Santos is wasting his prime, by now he could/should have unified the 154 division.

Santos won a split technical decision, not a KO win at all.

He's a good fighter, but the reason he fights once a year is that his promoter, Don King, doesn't care about him.

Seriously i think Don King was rooting for Alcine more than Santos the last time he fought

A world champion boxing once a year is madness. His career earnings must be relatively pathetic.

He could have long-term hand or back problems. These sorts of things take a lot of recovery time and management.

    Alternatively, Don King is ****.

Does he have another job outside of boxing? Surely he cant be making enough with just one fight a year to maintain. That or yea... Don King is a douche...

Santos is a great fighter.. He is very tough and IMO one of the best in PR but he has been horribly managed his entire career.. the loses on his record and mainly because of how badly managed he has been.. Wrong opponents at the beginning of his professional career.. always fighting overseas etc etc etc.. And for the guy saying that he KO'd Margarito well he didn't KO Margarito but he did had him a little hurt and overwhelmed a couple times and was winning legitimately at the time of the stoppage.. Santos is stronger than Margarito and looks bigger than him as him as well so Margarito couldn't bully him like he does with the welters but no he did not KO him... No man has done that yet... Santos prime is being wasted badly.. I think he should move up in weight as well to Middleweight before it's too late so he can get some meaningful fights and make some good money...

Because no one wants to fight him.

Supposedly he is in talks as we speak to fight Sergio Martinez.
