Even when comparing American HW's he's always an afterthought. He's the third best HW under 30 and that's if you give totally unearned deference to Itauma that was also given to Torrez. Yet every time people bring him up it seems to be either pointing out how much American HW's suck or saying Anderson should retire.

Merhy just won the Bridgerweight title and Anderson beat him easily. Years ago when he was 24. When he was 23 he was beating Martin and Forrest fairly easily. Who are both not bad at all. Martin just proved he still is a very capable boxer with a light chin. Anderson handled him easy.

Anderson hasn't done anything since the Bakole loss. The division is frozen because the champ is fighting kickboxers instead of contenders. But the Bakole loss really isn't enough to write Anderson off. Especially given Bakole and most of the HW elite are going to be gone when Anderson enters his prime. In 5 years a list of current HW's in their prime will be Dubois, Huni, Torrez, Wardley, TBA1, TBA2 and so forth. Anderson's chances against that group are excellent.

I thought he was overrated before the bakole fight. I can only assume the negative reactions to him are down to a totally unjustified hype. I never saw anything from him to suggest he would ever crack the top 10, yet he was promoted as the next great thing from the us.

Itauma gets a lot of ****, but he handles anderson super easily. I've never seen proper defense from anderson.

I don't hate the guy, he ist just out of my top 30 right now and certainly not in my top 3 under 30

On one thing i have to agree with you - it is a bit shameful, how hard the drop after a loss can be for hyped fighters. I think it's also in the nature of the hype. No wonder these fighters often don't take challenges / their promoters prevent it. hype is needed to get the casuals and to make money on the early fights, but can be very dangerous.

He was supposed to fight Solomon Dacres a couple months ago (on Fury-Mak card iirc). That would’ve been a good comeback fight hopefully it gets remade.

People forget that Jerry Forrest should’ve had wins over Zhang, Hunter, Franklin. Anderson iced him in 2 rounds. Anderson outboxed/KO’d Kingsley Ibeh back in the day. Miller only beat Ibeh by razor thing SD. And Anderson’s hair didn’t go flying off in the process. And I agree that Martin is a little underrated too.

I think most people just suspect Anderson’s heart isn’t in it and he might never reach his potential. Not that I think he will be a champion, his defence is too bad, but he could be a top 10 guy and get some good wins.

No class and he bought into the hype that he was going to be undisputed champion with ease.

I posted this before his fight with Bakole... People dislike him because he's an selfish, entitled jackass.

    "Anderson is mentally weak.

Fleeing the police and committing felonies is a sign, at least to me, that maybe Anderson's head isn't on straight enough to be great. When you throw in the fact that Anderson is constantly making comments like: “I don’t feel like I need to be an undisputed champion" and "I don't feel that I have to be a world champion,” or "I dont really like the sport of boxing" also tells me he may have overstepped this time with Bakole.

The man doesn't seem to care about much, there is no fire.

Anderson struggled against Charles Martin in round five and in the last few seconds of round ten where he was unsteady at best and had Martin been anything other than Martin, Anderson might have been stopped.

    Bakole KO7"

One can argue his wins over decent journeymen Ibeh (2021) and Forrest (2022) were good. But in more recent years he didn't stop Martin, Merhy or Kollias, with Martin and Kollias giving him trouble at points. And he was destroyed in 5 rounds by Bakole, who got stopped by Hunter and Parker, drew with Ajagba and went the distance with Yoka and Kuzmin.

Anderson is going on 27, hasn't fought in 16 months now, his fight with low level Dacres was cancelled (allegedly due to injury but perhaps due to Anderson not training/wanting it) and he seemed far too mentally weak/disinterested to ever get to the top, and this was before Bakole burst his bubble.

Many were looking for a great American hope post-Wilder and he failed in spectacular fashion in his first big step up fight, hence the hate.

    Why does HistoryZero26 hate Usyk?

It seems that every boxer has haters. But I'm surprised at this thread, because in recent months, Anderson has rarely been mentioned, either in a positive or negative way.

Some people had high hopes for him and were disappointed. I was hoping to see him back on the Queensberry card last month, but he backed out of it. Honestly, I don't think he enjoys boxing - he has talent, but lacks ambition.

mentally weak? Eh, he went out on his shield against Bakole, kept getting up and trying despite taking an absolute beating. Give credit where it’s due.

If you read the part right after I called him mentally weak you'd understand it has nothing to do with the fight and everything to do with committing felonies and fleeing the police.

High-Speed Police Chase February 2024: Anderson was arrested in Huron Township, Michigan, after allegedly leading police on three high-speed chases, reaching speeds over 130 mph in a Dodge Challenger, which ultimately ended when he crashed into a median. He was charged with a third-degree felony for fleeing a police officer.OVI and Weapons Arrest.

    Because he didn't learn from...

November 2023: Anderson was arrested in Oregon, Ohio, and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and improperly handling firearms in a vehicle after police smelled alcohol and marijuana and found a gun in a locked glove box. He later pleaded no contest to the amended gun charge, while the OVI charge was dismissed.

These are the signs of being mentally weak, as far as being able to a champion. Not even Mike Tyson could maintain when he began breaking the law again and Anderson is no Tyson.

I almost posted to discuss these. I see this more as an impulse control issue than any weakness related to athletic performance or being able to fight.

He is very talented but he doesnt have the mentality or the discipline. That video of him crying in the gym for example or the police chase...says it all.

He's basically irrelevant in terms of top tier HW discussions. Lacks both ability and desire.
