Why does everyone let Wlad jab them to death?

That's quite correct and important to realize in order to understand their effectiveness!

When you come up against a guy who throws a jab with such authority you better have some head movement and some laterial movement. Unfortunately most of the HW's these days don't.

    I don't think you'll find a harder thrown jab then Klitshko's.

i wanted to add to this...both Klitschko brothers are in great shape, they punch their weight (all 240+ lbs of it) and they carry it very well. When they grapple they are far stronger and more physical, especially Wlad, then just about anybody out there. There's nobody right now in the HW division that can push Wlad around in a hold.

Reach, good power behind it,poor opposition etc.Wlad basically can win a fight just on a jab.

Depends who he is in with,by the looks of it after 3 rounds he could have just played with Brewster in the rematch,he had nothing left.Could have got him out quicker like with Austin.

I think a strategy similar to facing Golota (Lennox Lewis / Lamon Brewster Style) might work against Wlad -- but he's not interested in letting that happen.

Hard Jabs and Clinching make that very, very difficult if you aren't fast, powerful and committed. The man has a great jab and the danger of the hook as well.

I guess it's also fair to say that after tasting his jab you'd rather not eat too much of his Power Punches!! ;-)

Exactly. They get hit with it, and they reconsider getting any closer to him to catch that again or get countered with one of his punches that are actually big.

I think the real problem, however, is that guys are not willing to exchange with him after they feel the power of his jab. They wait for him to make a mistake, which he doesn't do.

They also need, NEED, head movement.

But the biggest thing that works against Wlad is what Calvin Brock did. FOOT MOVEMENT! Don't stand in one place and let him tee off...move around the ring, keep him from planting his feet, and land whatever you can on that body. Mix it up some.

People **** on Calvin Brock now, but he's probably had the most success against Wlad over the last 4 years except for maybe Sam Peter. Wlad was actually befuddled by Brock that night.

    Pretty much.

I think head movement is needed to get past the jab. Guys need to try to make Wlad lose faith in it and get a little wild.

That's one reason I think Chagaev may have the best chance against Wlad. His head movement is excellent for a HW and he knows how to set traps.

To get around such a huge guy with such a good jab you need to have great speed, great mobility, great reflexes, great head movement, great agility - does anyone Wlad has fought in the past few years have any of these things? :-(

Put Wlad in with peak late 80s Tyson and he wouldn't make it to the end of the first round, Tyson would be slipping that jab, moving laterally, leaping into attacks, he would brutalize Wlad.

The only heavyweight around just now that I think may possibly be able to achieve something similar is David Haye. He is not as good as late 80s Tyson, but he could conceivably beat Wlad. He wouldn't beat Vitali though.

Below of jab maybe waiting right hand. Its not so simple to go to the body or close to fighter who can move well and own's good variety of punches.

    Everyone has a plan..

They don't "let" Wlad do anything. It can't be stopped.

How so? Wlad has the best jab in the heavyweight division... the best straight right in the heavyweight division.... and the best left hook in the heavyweight division. He also has tremendous footwork, especially for a guy his size. His defense is flat out great, how many times do you ever see him hit flush? Wladimir wins his fights because he is great at many things. His greatest attribute is that he forces his opponents to fight his fight, at his range.
