Is it because of a longer reign? Spinks never lost at his best weight
Hopkins lost three times. Hopkins beat a 37 year old Tarver who was
15 pounds higher then Hopkins natural weight. Hopkins also beat a 35
year old Wright who weighed 10 pounds more then Hopkins 160
Spinks beat a 31 year Old Gerry Conney who was 63 pounds above Spinks natural weight and a 35 year old Larry Holmes who was 48 pounds more then Spinks natural weight. He also stopped Holmes
from tying the most important record in boxing history
I know people think Holmes was shot but he picked up some nice wins in the 90's

    Who's "everyone"?

Michael is generally regarded as an ATG, and I haven't seen all these people say "Hopkins is p4p greater than Spinks".

I rate Spinks as the number one light heavyweight of all-time and I rate him in my all-time pound-for-pound top ten

Spinks definitely ahead of Hopkins. But today's generation looks at things differently, so some of that crowd would have Hopkins ahead.

It should be noted that this thread was started in 2007. Since that time, Hopkins has established himself as the oldest man to ever capture a world title... Some other points about Bernard, is that he was a champion at middleweight for no less than 10 years and had some 21 title wins, along with the eventual unification of that championship. At the age of 48 and with 63 professional fights, he has yet to see his first stoppage loss.... Of his 6 career defeats, four of them came post age 40, while another came in his first professional fight... The only remaining one to speak of was against a prime Jones when Bernard was greed... So did anyone REALLY beat a prime Bernard? I don't know.. Not saying Hopkins ranks higher than Spinks.. In fact, I can see a good argument for the contrary.. But I wouldn't have them too far apart.

2007? ****, Bernard was only 42 then. Just a wee lad in them days.

At this stage, I'd say they're close. Very close. Probably still an edge for Spinks though.
