To be honest I just get annoyed with you cats always digging relics to try to take shine away from current fighters, especially Mayweather. We talking fantasy fights and even still you can not make an argument that either Hearns, Hagler, Duran, or Leonard have a greater skill set than Floyd Mayweather. They clearly dont...Floyd's defense is better than all 4, his footwork is better, his stamina is unquestioned, his conditioning is unquestioned, his pedigree is superb, his dedication to the sport is not in doubt, he doesn't binge, drink, smoke, do drugs, or get out of shape in between fights. His IQ is superior, his technique is superior, his gameplan, ability to adjust is superior. Floyd would be the absolute worse matchup for Hearns, Duran, and Leonard. All 3 looked there best against flat footed brawlers, none of them liked to face pure boxers!

Ray Leonard is not a huge Welterweight he was normal sized welterweight, when he did move up in weight he was maxed at 165, anything more than that and he was fat. The young Ray is an average sized 147 lb kid. And by the way Ray Leonard has never fought an opponent as good as Floyd Jr. Ray struggled with fast and pure boxers, Norris, Camacho, Howard, even Hearns when he chose to box and not brawl. Yeah Ray was older when he loss those fights but he still struggled against quick fighters with sound defense and counterpunching. Ray preferred to be the faster guy in the ring, against Floyd he wouldn't be, he would see a guy just as fast if not faster.

The only guy from the Fab Four who overlaps with Mayweather in terms of size is Duran, and Duran lacked the discipline to turn in an undefeated record against the same fighters Floyd did. Not only that; he would've eaten his way out of 147 by his late thirties.

You really want to compare Corrales to Tommy?

    The circumstances were completely different.

    Where do we even start?

Floyd had a bigger reach than Corrales.

It was at a much lower weight class where Floyd was better.

Floyd could fight more offensively and more aggressively.

Floyd beating Corrales at 130 has no bearing on how a potential fight against Tommy at WW may have played out.

Okay so since this is fantasy why does Tommy get to fight in his prime best weight class but Floyd dont?

You have to lose a few times to have fighters like that on your resume, an undefeated fighter doesn't build rivalries he obliterates them. In case you didn't notice even Pac is not considered a great win for Floyd. Certainly Pac would be a great win for anyone else would he not? Just another day in the office for Mayweather. Since no one can challenge beat him then the perception will continue to be that he hasn't got anyone "like that" on his resume.

You've made some good points as well as some silly ones.

First off, you need to be concentrating more on a fantasy head to head fight, rather than an*lyzing their skill sets. Again, on a pound for pound basis, I wouldn't argue too much with anyone who rated Floyd higher. I won't even argue with you if you think Floyd was more skilled etc. But again, we're looking here at a fantasy head to head fight between Floyd and the likes of Tommy. So you're looking at the size of each of the fighters: Their height and reach. Then you're looking at their attributes: Their Jab, their power etc. Then you're looking at their style of fighting. I think Roy Jones was better than Lennox Lewis, but he couldn't have beaten him in a fight.

    Do you understand my point?

Now how on earth would Floyd have been a nightmare for Tommy? A much smaller guy, who had no power at the weight, who had a safety first mindset? That would have been a low risk fight for Tommy.

Except you not taking into consideration that Floyd has defeated bigger, stronger, faster, younger opponents on a regular basis...Floyd has defeated the biggest variety of size, styles, background than any fighter I can think of. He has beat undefeated fighters at the top of their game, prime champions, future Hall of Famers, future ATG's, young lions, etc...southpaws, righties, brawlers, foulers, boxers, jabbers, punchers, etc....what style has Floyd not seen. Ray, Duran, and even Tommy will not be showing Floyd nothing he has never seen before.

I didn't say Ray was a huge WW, I said he'd have held huge advantages over Floyd.

Norris and Camacho? Are you kidding me?

Of course he struggled with Tommy. Now we're getting somewhere. He struggled with Tommy, because Tommy was a great boxer with a size advantage. So if Ray struggled to box against Tommy, it gives you an indication of what Floyd would have been up against. You have just inadvertently destroyed your own argument. Floyd could not have done something that Ray was unable to do. So taking that into account as well as knowing that Floyd could never have fought him and stopped him, we know that there's no way Floyd could have beaten Tommy Hearns.

Back to Ray, yes, he'd have been facing someone just as fast and as skilled as him. But again, Floyd wasn't as strong and he didn't have anywhere near the firepower that Ray possessed, which again would have given Ray a huge advantage as he'd have turned up the heat knowing that Floyd wouldn't have gone toe to toe with him in a shootout. Ray had heart and he had a nasty streak in him that Floyd didn't have.

But how much time in a fight did Tommy dedicate to boxing before he reverted back to stalker haymakers? Whenever tommy got clipped his entire gameplan went out the window and he would start to brawl thus giving up all his advantages. When Tommy fought smart fighters they would just wait for an opening to clip him and he would often times start to fight stupid. Kind of like Eric Morales, yeah he can box well until he gets clipped and starts trading punches taking unnecessary punishment. I believe you can beat Tommy with superior power or superior intelligence. Floyd has one of those advantages.

Did you see Leonard vs Benitez, Leonard vs Mayweather Sr, Leonard vs Duran, ...Lalonde, Camacho, Norris, Howard, Hearns...trust me when I tell you that Leonard did not look good agaisnt defensive fighters and pure boxers. He hated the defense of Floyd Sr and Benitez, did he win those fights, yeah but neither of those guys are Floyd Jr.

This is the only fantasy fight that we can discuss between them.

If it was prime for prime, it would be Floyd at SFW-LW vs Tommy at JMW.

Again, it's an unfair fight for Floyd. But this has stemmed from the TS.

The fighters have to be there in the first place.

To be fair to Floyd, apart from a peak version of Manny, he didn't really have an opponent on the level of the Fab Four.

Of course Manny isn't considered a GREAT win for Floyd. All things considered, why would it be?

It doesn't matter if Floyd fought bigger, more powerful guys, if they were nowhere near the level of a WW-JMW version of Tommy Hearns. Again, we're looking head to head here.

Ray, Duran and Tommy wouldn't have shown Floyd anything he'd not seen before?

    Are you serious?

There were fighters like that that could of been on his resume but unfortunately they all ducked Floyd during his and their primes: Pacquiao, Naseem, Oscar, Shane, Tsyzu (by retiring) ...140 was the weight class for Floyd to have his legendary fights. Hatton, Gatti, Cotto, Tsyzu were all there, when Mayweather arrived in that division only Gatti had the ***** to face him. The others went on a voyage.
