Because he hasn't fought in half a dozen years. If you want to be popular then you should fight four times a year and stay in front of your public like the old time boxers, NFL, NBA, and MLB starts. It's bizarre how fighters will fight every week in the amateurs for nothing or next to nothing, but the minute they make their first dollar as a pro they yell "I only want to fight once a year for a million dollars!"

He's been having harsh promotional disputes that caused him to be inactive all of this time. It's a shame really.

He wasn't fighting that much before he had the disputes. Prima donna attitude. I'm sure boxers in the fifties had problems with their managers or promoters, but it didn't stop them from fighting ten times a year.

His disputes happened after Ward clowned, humiliated, and made the LHW champion of the world Dawson quit after a nasty beating.

After this grand victory, Ward wanted more money. Understandably so.
