Trying to pump up his opponent to appear more like a legit threat so the casuals will be more apt to buy the fight. Don't play ****ing dumb, Lance. :verysad

:patsch That's not playing dumb **** face. It's a legit question on why this is what some boxers must resort to. You are aware there have been plenty of top draw fighters who didn't need to resort to this weak ass 'heel' tactic. SRL, Hearns, Tito, DLH, Holyfield...ALL draws in their hey day. But they certainly didn't need to pull **** fake ****.

Like it or not, controversey sells. Floyd doesn't have a style that's "exciting" enough for most casual fans to want to tune in to see, but he more than makes up for it by being a ****ing ******* and hyping the **** out of his fights. How can you knock it when he makes more per fight than anyone else in boxing?

Boxing was much bigger back in SRL and Hearns' day, Tito and DLH both had huge cultural followings and Holyfield's style was very exciting to watch. Floyd wasn't drawing flies to **** before he adopted this "heel tactic" because his style doesn't excite the casuals. :deal

floyd is not different from the average ***** here. before the pac-cotto fight, he says that clottey beat cotto to bash on pac's opponent. now that he's fighting him, cotto is suddenly undefeated. floyd thinks that casual fans are idiots like his own fans who buys into his BS.

True. Just pretty sad for any boxer to have to act like a jack ass to sell their fights.

And he succeeded. Muhammad Ali's style wasn't that appealing to casuals either but his trash talking got people to tune-in hoping he would get beat. What's the issue?

I think it's sad that only a small percentage of people have any interest in boxing at all anymore and most of them just want to see an unskilled slugfest.

You understand, there are grey areas there, right?. Look at DLH vs. Shane's first fight. Was that unskilled? There was a ton of action as well as high level skill. You can say the same for Toney vs. Jirov. Why do you assume a slugfest equals unskilled? Were Castillo vs. Corrales two unskilled guys? Hell, even suggesting Gatti vs. Ward as two unskilled guys isn't even correct (not that you said that, but many seem to think that.) Same for Vasquez vs. Marquez. It's an unsult to call these guys unskilled just because they don't focus on defense. People toss the label brawler all too often, and with some bad connotation. There have been before, and will be in the future, action fights with a great level of skill. Even Floyd himself was more entertaining back in his lighter weights. Back when he let his hands go. And coincidentally, when he was actually hungry. What he's doing is just fighting to win. Taking a safety first approach. Just as DLH did late in his career too.

Mayweather was labeled as a boring, overly defensive, runner at the lighter weights. I would say since the N'Dou fight, he's used less movement, and fought more flat footed. His defense has gotten better though and he hasn't been throwing as many combos since moving to 147.
