... guys explain What will that get Floyd by one more victory? Will that be the end of it? How will that increase Floyd's ranking amoung the ATG's?
Just ask yourself what will happen if say Berto becomes the guy to beat Cotto/Margarito? Good for boxing, Bad for Floyd. (Who are pretty much the only fighter's fan's are asking PBF for, Williams need not apply) Floyd's ATG status defo does not need either Cotto or Margarito. (But his mannhood status should.)
He doesn't have to fight Cotto. However, it's a fight that everyone wants to see. If Floyd takes on this fight, he can give the fans a fight that they're dying to see, he can also give boxing another boost as this would be a pretty big event. Also, he can help give a good young fighter(Cotto) some much needed exposure; giving him a prime opportunity to show the world what he's made of. It would be similar to the DLH/Mayweather fight. Hoya didn't have to take that fight. However, it was a fight that everyone wanted to see. It also gave Floy a lot of exposure and allowed him to show off his talents to a huge audience.
He doesn't, but he needs to fight a top fighter in his own weight class who is in his prime. You can't call yourself the greatest without having done that. He could have fought a prime Mosley or ODLH or Kostya Tsyzu but he never did, Cotto represents the latest dangerous champion in his prime that Mayweather is avoiding.
A true ATG wouldnt even ask that question...I respect and place any ATG fighter above floyd just on having more, uhh more... what do you call it....balls! Did Duran stop fighting because he thought he was the shits? no there was always someone out there to prove your dominance against and if you loose that just means theres somebody out there greater but Floyd never really found out how good he really was and thats just too bad.
So in your opinion its a matter of pride? So if Berto beat Cotto (hypothetically speaking) that would be bad for Floyd ... even when Berto tries to immitate Floyd's style?
Mosley, DLH, and Tszyu were big while Floyd was on his way up ... Mosley 2wice turned down a fight w/ PBF ... he opted to fight DLH and then fight Cotto. Tszyu was a showtime fighter and PBF was an HBO fighter ... Isn't Cotto a top WW in his class in fact he's the number 1 contender to the ring magazine title. Judah wasn't even 30 when he and PBF fought ... he was a top 5 WW in his prime and coming off winning the undisputed WW title.
The reason he has to fight Cotto is that the same haters who said he'd lose to Ricky Hatton (those threads were wonderful) need somoene to rally for against Floyd. Cotto is now that torch bearer. If Cotto bludgeons FRAUDgarito like I hope he does and wins some big fights, I do see the fight happening probably next year. Especially if he and Oscar fights and he beats him (which I think he will)..
Can you elaborate? ... i'm trying to get an understanding and I want to here all opinions. He has Gatti, Hernandez, Castillo, Chavez, Corrales, DLH, Judah, Baldomir, and Hatton ... all of whom were champions ... and 4 of those guys were Linear champions.
Genaro Hernandez when he was only two years into his professional career. Diego Corrales when most observers thought that Diego was way too overpowering. Oscar Dela Hoya-for some reason people see the guy as a hall of famer and while I know he'll be in although I don't think that he's that kind of fighter, he beat him clearly. Ricky Hatton-The same people that will cry that Ricky wasn't a welterweight tend to forget that Floyd started out as a featherweight weight and he and Ricky Hatton are pretty much identical in age. In other words the weight argment is rubbish (BILLY GRAHAM). Two of the names are known to NON boxing fans around the world. One of the names was a part of the biggest rock'em/sock'em brawl since Hagler and Hearns (of which Floyd also beat his counterpart). Boxing fans know that Genero Hernandez was no sloutch especially for someone fighting him only two years into their career. NEXT.........
but if cotto or margarito or anyone that was a threat to floyd had those names on their resumes they wouldn't mean **** and thats the point i'm making...the guys mayweather has established his "greatness" on don't mean jack on other peoples resumes ... if cotto beat a 35 36 year old delahoya it dosn't mean **** ... cotto beat judah ..didn't mean **** ... if cotto beat baldomir he could cave his face in and it wouldn't mean **** ... same for the rest .. it only means **** cause floyd beat them
