Why does Floyd Mayweather fail to stop most of his opponents?

Because to knock a guy out risks getting you knocked out.

No need to risk it when you are dominating guys.

That is the nature of a natural counter puncher/pure boxer.

Brittle hands he rather stand and pot shot these days, than try to go for the kill hurt his hand and possibly running his last fights.

Besides the Mosley fight the times he truly tried to stop his opponents he hurt his hand Cotto who he came into the ring with a hand inquiry, Baldomir who he was loading up on bomb after bomb, and Guerrero who buckled but wouldnt drop..................

Pac fought a Cotto comign off a gruelign 12 rd decision against CLottey in which he suffered the worst cut of his career and was only a year or so removed from Antnio "Plaster Fists" Margarito. Not to mention, Cotto didn't have his uncle in his corner for the first time in his career (not 100% sure about length of this though)

Mayweather fought a rejuvinated Cotto who was on a three fight win strek with 3 consecutive stoppages.

    a few reasons.
    1. his style of a pure boxer. Hit, and not get hit, makes it harder to commit
    2. punches. He no longer throws more than a 3 punch combinations.
    3. hands. Whenever he commits to hurting guys, his hands have about a 50/50 chance of getting hurt. Not good odds when you're a boxer
    4. Competition level. Fighting top tier world class fighters in every putting many who rarely if ever get stopped by even big punchers
    5. weight. He has been outweighed in every fight in his last 10 with the exception of marquez and hatton(on the scales) but im positive hatton outweighed him fight night, possibly even marquez. He gives up (besides those two fights) excesses of 10-17lbs of weight. hard to get a ko against a guy what much larger than you, especially when youre not a huge puncher to begin with.
overall, he's not a big puncher, but he's not a featherfist. He's got good power IMO but if you really look at stoppages between the metioned pacman and floyd, you realize that pacman has to throw 1000 punches at an opponent to get them out, while floyd on average throws less than half and has about the same ko ratio as pacman. So when you really think about pacman stoppages how many guys has he really kod just because of power, and how many has he simply overwhelmed to a tko. Ill be willing to bet anything that if even this current floyd just threw combinations at times, not all the time in the fight, but in spots instead of throwing just 1 or 2, he would get more stoppages, and to take it a step further, if he didnt hurt his hand ill be willing to bet he wouldve gotten guerrero out of there in the coming rounds after the 8th rd beatdown.

I think there were Manny fights where he could have stopped a fighter but simply chose not not to.

There's a myriad of reasons why FLoyd hasn't bene KO'ing people at the 147 and 154 divisions. FIrst and foremost, it's because since basically the DLH fight he's become a more reserved offensive fighter and has drastically reduced the amount of risks that he took back in the lighter weights. At 130-140, FLoyd could beat you on the outside or inside with no problem. He was a master of phone-booth fighting and he put combinations together a lot more frequently than he has at higher weights.

Which leads me to the second reason- he started counterpunching and giving single potshots a lot more at the higher weights compared to his combination punching at the lower weights. He's become the master of potshots, and since he doesn't really have KO power in either hand at the higher weights, it's much harder to knock a guy out from frequent potshots compared to putting combinations together in high frequency and breaking him down in the latter rounds.

Also, he's had issues with his hands in the past, multiple surgeries on them, so there is a history of "brittle hands" that Floyds dealt with. Probably the reason why he didn't get the Ghost out of the ring within 10 rounds in his last fight.

But most importantly, it's because FLoyd is a VERY small WW. The guy walks around at about 153-155 lbs, think about that. Most fighters have to lose on average 20-25 pounds to make their weight classes. FLoyd just has to diet for about a week combined with his ridiculous workout regimen to make weight. He's just a SMALL WW. If he continued to fight at 135 or 140, he'd be a wrecking machine.

I remember when he fought in those lower weight classes back than, none of the top-tier guys really wanted anything to do with him. Mosley, Casamayor and others didn't seem like they wanted to fight FLoyd at all.

Floyd has very underrated punching power. I'm pretty sure that he hits hard but due of his defensive style he doesn't go for the kill, commiting himself. Anyway taking the Canelo fight @ 152 ( which IMO is a fair catch weight ) makes me to give him all the props and stop talking crap / trolling about him and his resume.

As somebody said : 'Haters gonna hate'

His defense is practically his offense and this will lead him to becoming 50.0 same as Rigo ,nobody and I mean nobody will beat these two fighters with their style of fight.

    Consider this slant....
How many top elite fighters have a high knock-out ratio from fighting other top elite fighters? Very very few

And why do fighters have a tough time in pulling the triger by the mid rounds against Mayweather? Because he's feather-fisted?

There, both of your lousy questions answered by thought-provoking common sense observation

He has subpar power but not feather fister. He lands such clean shots and sometimes they don't see them coming. He knocked Corrales down a lot but Corrales was never really hurt. He was landing about as flush as you can land on someone. Gatti also took a ridiculous amount of shots, about as clean as you can get but was not KO'd.

He's fighting at the top level and the quality of boxers at this level are not

easy to take out. Except for Gatti and Hatton who were glorified b level boxers.

    The rest are tough.

Hes lacks punching power . Pretty much it . Although I would not call him a weak puncher . Hatton is the LAST fighter we will ever see Floyd stop . Nobody credits Floyd for the Ortiz knockout because it was not legit . Whether Floyd fights 2,3 more times after Canelo , he wont be winning by TKO/KO anymore . He will just continue to keep playing it safe and winning on points till he hangs them up .
