Why does Floyd's style not work in the amateurs?

Who cares? Lomachenko was busy chasing GOAT level glory in boxing, hence he's the GOAT amateur in history. Amateurs is NOT grade school at the elite level. There's a large number of experienced veterans at the elite level, and it's a different system.

Yeah, in his third pro fight. Mayweather had Larry O'Shields problems in his early days as a pro. Mayweather beat a past prime DLH, big deal.

 

Gan, we've been over this. Your quality as valued member of the board dips considerably when you discuss Mayweather. That is a HUGE objectivity blind spot for you. All you do is discredit him at every opportunity, like he owes you money (and banged your wife).

Normally you're in a much higher class of respectability but when it comes to discussing PBF you are basically on the boxing_master tier. (and to your credit you discuss & have demonstrated being knowledgeable on a broad range of subjects besides him, whereas b_m doesn't & hasn't)

You don't beat the great Lorenzo Aragón in the amateurs with a style that "doesn't work". (even if Aragón would have been the victor under pro rules..)

That guy was a beast, and probably better than either of the guys that actually participated in the gold medal finals match that year.

How many people have better amateur careers before the age of 20?

His last amateur fight was at the age of 19. He made his amateur debut at the age of 10. Won national Golden Gloves championships in three weight classes across 93 and 94 (winning the Outstanding Boxer Award in 94) he also won the US National Championship in 95 (also picking up the Outstanding Boxer Award). Before winning a bronze medal.

He then turned professional - and wasn't old enough to drink yet.

 

We will see if Lomachenkos style is amateur ready when Loma is 38. And there are many Gold medalists who didn't pan out in the pros. Just an all around dumbass post.
