i dont know if this toppic has ever been brought up or not, but i just wanted your guys opinions on whether or not you like when hbo cuts to the families of the figher gettting their ass kicked??i have never noticed this years ago as i have now.i dont know if im noticing this more and more because i have a family of my own now?? i was routing so hard for pacman and thouroughly enjoying his fight with cotto until hbo kept cutting to cottos wife and kids as he was getting beat up.i cant stand when they do it. what is the point of it???? opinions please???
It is kind of a spoiler. I hate to see the Familys like that. They did that both times Ricky Hatton was knocked out too.
Higher Ratings => $$$ That's why you see HBO camera man pointing down to Pac after Hatton fight, "don't forget your post fight prayer!".
I am not sure if taking your kids to your fights is a good idea either. If I were fighting, I would just have showed my kids the replay if I win, and won't bother showing them if I get beaten up badly. It is not good for the kids Psychologically.
i just dont see what place this has in boxing... theres really no drama in seeing the family of a fighter who is getting the **** kicked out of him.its spoils the action. who the hell wants to see wives and little kids crying their eyes because their husband/dad is getting beat up. they need to stop that **** i find it very offensive.
Honestly it's not half as bad as the Contender series from when it was on ESPN. All the calling home and crying to their wives/gf about the stress and how they miss them, and then showing them broken and defeated with their family in tears in the locker room around them after being eliminated...pointlessly exploitative. The only drama boxing needs is the drama in the ring. :good I don't really care much about guys' life stories outside of it.
I don't think they did that years ago on HBO. I think ABC and the networks used to do that. I don't like it. It is showing someone who cares about the fighter in agony over how they are doing. I don't like that at all. I don't think anyone does really.
