Hopkins was coming off of 2 straight losses at MW and was 41 years and moving up 2 weight classes heading into this fight.

And prior to his fight with Hopkins, Tarver was fighting only the best at LHW. In his last 7 prior fights, he had fought RJJ 3 times, Glen Johnson twice, Montel Griffin, and Eric Harding. He was widely considered THE best LHW out there and had beaten everyone there is to beat.

So why do some people try to discredit this feat? Do you think Tarver aged before the Hopkins fight?

Mostly everyone here and in the general boxing media was picking Tarver to stop BHOP and brutally.

But then BHOP humiliates Tarver, and all of a sudden, the win means very little.

    It was an excellent win.

The Wright win was a good one too, the way people talk you'd have thought he'd lost a close one.

I don't see why he would. Tarver is now older and worse. Hopkins put a beating on a Tarver that everyone was saying, "I hate the guy, but he's the best at Light Heavyweight", about.

Some people just flat out don't like Hopkins. That win was HUGE. I called it easily beforehand. Tarver had no prayer against the smarter and simply better Hopkins.

No, because Hopkins ruined him much like Calzaghe did Lacy.

that's because winky looked like a jelly baby and his legs were as useful as stephen hawkings.

the tarver win on the other hand is good.

I'm not sure I see the same discrediting. "Saint Bernard" fever was at an all time high as a result of the fight.

In fact, most people here and in the boxing media were also predicting that Trinidad would knock Bhop out easily, De la Hoya would pick him apart, and Tarver was too big and strong for him.
But when he wins, Trinidad was over the hill, DLH was a blown up middleweight, and Tarver was drained from the weight loss.

Give the old man credit. Godamnit :rasta

    Amsterdam,

Just curious, who did Tarver avoid prior to his fight with Hopkins. I'm not talking about after because i know he avoided Dawson. But in 2004, Dawson was a nobody.

Clinton Woods? I wouldn't say he avoided him. He just had his hands full fighting everyone else. I mean look at his last 7 fights prior to Hopkins. RJJ 3 times, Glen Johson 2X, Eric Harding, and Montel Griffin. All top contenders at this division.
