Why does Hopkins get very little credit for beating Tarver?

    Sam Soliman.:yep

I find it ridiculous how Soliman gives Wright a very close fight, but then goes and gets KTFO by Mundine and then loses to Bika, when Wright's the P4P cemented boy that can't be dropped from the list according to the ring.:yep

You'd have some merit with that if Wright wasn't overweight and Hopkins didn't have a massive style advantage. Prime for prime Hopkins would have dominated Wright and I mean win nearly every round, he looked really bad against a sluggish Wright, old.

You might be stretching it a bit, but this is a valid point!

It's also true that Hopkins makes fighters look bad, devaluing some of his own wins with the "skillset" crew.

Sam Soliman made it a close fight? Let me guess, you never saw the fight? Soliman had one thing and one thing only......increidible activity. The type of activity that has almost never been displayed in a boxing ring over 12 rounds. But Winky had no trouble with him. You are making it sound like Winky was actually invovled in a close fight with this guy. PLEASE.

Don't make me laugh. Hopkins was older than Tarver when this fight happened, he was also coming off two losses, and going up two divisions. So if Tarver was faded,so was Hopkins. Hopkins was a 3-1 underdog. This was a good win. Anyone who says otherwise is talking out of their ass.

The official scorecards were 115-113, 115-112, and 117-110. Like i said, the only thing Soliman had going for him in that fight was activity with the likes that has seldom been showcased in a 12 round fight. His stamina was amazing. But he was very limited as a boxer.

Winky clearly won this fight. The judges had to give Soliman some rounds based on sheer activity. Winky did sort of sit back and just pick his spots in this one. But again, it wasn't close in the sense that Winky was trying his butt off to look great. He did enough to win.

Yeah...Hopkins was faded too! One faded man beating another...

Hopkins did very well to win, going up in weight so much. But he is a very talented, very intelligent fighter, so he won. Shouldn't be given the credit that he was given in the USA though...Tarver was NOT a prime force, when Hopkins beat him. Hopkins couldn't have beaten him three-four years earlier...

You have no idea about this. You're basically guessing. We do know that Hopkins was a 3-1 underdog, we also know that Hopkins completely dominated that fight, we also know that Hopkins was in his 40's and well past his prime. What makes you think Hopkins wouldn't have beat him 3 or 4 years earlier when he was a much better fighter himself?

But Oscar and Johnson wins were NOTHING indeed :bart

If you wanna argue with that, please argue with statement:

with couple of wins like Oscar and say three wins like Johnson, B-Hop still would reach the same status as now.

I am guessing, obviously! I am guessing that if Hopkins had gone up two weight divisions to fight Tarver in 2003, he'd have lost.

Why the **** are Hopkins fans always going on about how he doesn't get the credit he deserves?

He's a universally regarded all time great, he's currently no.4 in the Ring magazine pound 4 pound (which is more to do with his history than his current form) and he's about to fight in one of the biggest bouts of the year.

What more do you want? Should boxing fans set up a fund so that there are always enough rose petals to scatter at his feet wherever he walks? Should we ensure he is surrounded by 12 naked virgins at all times?

Stop feeling sorry for the man. His ego doesn't need any more fuelling.

You're also guessing that Tarver was washed up when he fought Hopkins. Well, prior to him fighting Hopkins, there was very little evidence to suggest that Tarver was washed up. I mentioned the 7 fights he had prior to Hopkins and they were all top contenders. Heck, the only evidence, (if you want to call it that), was in RJJ 3 when Tarver seemed gased late in the fight. But he still won a clear UD.

Soliman:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Winky landed every meaningful punch in that fight, and nearly KO'ed Soliman in the 9th.

And he won a unanimous decision, outlanding him by over 150 punches. What's close about that?
