Why does Hopkins get very little credit for beating Tarver?

It was a great feat. But it was boring as hell i think in a few rounds they threw punches in single digits. That means less than 20 punches were attempted by both fighters in a round.

 

I don't want to hear any bull**** about Hopkins getting favors because he's American. This guy had to things the hard way. He toiled in obscurity, fighting on undercards, getting underrated and under paid until he was in he mid 30's. So don't give me that bull**** about things being given to him because he's American.

To some people throwing 1300 punches in a fight automatically means you won, no matter if you only land 50.

It's just a **** load of Calzaghe fans hating on Hopkins accomplishments. That's why he gets little credit for beating Tarver. They don't want to give him any credit for anything, Hopkins fans are saying the same **** about Calzaghe. Hopkins MD, peace out.

 

So you mean that to say what? That Winky is not a p4p quality fighter, because he hasn't avenged a loss? Pac has several unavenged losses, does that mean he is not P4p#2?

 

If Calzaghe had beaten Tarver, he would have been declared a the GOAT by his nuthuggers.

Of course he is lucky he is American! He got some amazing oppoetunities, a lot of exposure and credit for his performances, once he proved his worth - this is much more than other fighters have gotten, who aren't American.:good

 

You are correct. However there were also many people that knew this was a very calculated match by Bernard. He knew Tarver had to blow up in weight for his role in rocky 6 and therefore had to lose all this weight for his fight with bernard.

Tarver win over Jones is also slightly overrated and in his fight before hopkins he didn't looked great either if I remember correct.

The man was in prison for 5 years, where he hones his craft, lost his 1st professional fight and his first title shot, traveled to a foreign country to win his 1st title, waited another 8 years for a meaningful fight, and did not get his big break until he was 36.

Sounds more like hard work than luck to me.

 

I wanna say there was a fighter who never was considered great but still looked good against Winky, and Winky never fought such a big (vs Winky), skilled and durable fighter since.

Neither SSM (size), Soliman (skills), Tito (slow pace), nor Taylor (stamina).

 

But Tarver had a height, weight, age, and reach advantage over BHOP, who had "lost" his two previous fights and was jumping not one but two divisions.

And the weight thing was an excuse. Tarver routinely blows up to 220 lbs between fights, his trainers said the same thing.

 

So basically, you are discounting his entire resume
