Why does Hopkins get very little credit for beating Tarver?

Of course it was hard work, an exceptional talent, etc. But he wouldn't have had those breaks even at 36 and the recognition that came with his results, had he not been American. This is obvious.

Anyone with his talent and skill, and belief in himself, can accomplish great things, no matter what his nationality.

    Examples:

    Manny Pac
    Erik Morales
    Lennox Lewis
    MAB
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Carlos Monzon

Not being American did not stop these guys from becoming great champs, and earning big bucks in the process.

Why would Calzaghe fans thrash talk Hopkins ?

Win or lose, it would take the luster out of his win or make him look even worse in losing. Stupid.

    Calsghe UD btw.

This is true, but would they have been as highly rated as Hopkins, giving the same kind of performances, as a 42 year-olds, at LHW? Would they be called the 4th best fighter in the world (Ring) and the best fighter in the world (boxrec), if they weren't American? No!

Would they have earned as much money and gotten as high-profile opponents if they had not been American? Only if they'd worked harder and if they'd been better.

Anyway...it doesn't matter...this is not what the thread is about.

If Calzaghe does manage to win. You will see an extreme 180 regarding Hopkins abilities. Trust me.

I never got the deal with Tarver? He beat up some good old men, and lost a very good old man. Now he is kinda old, and his acheivments look equally old.

I am not denying there are slightly more subtle fans around :D

Even with Kessler being one of my favourites (Danes and Norse are very close) , I think he has been getting a little of the "talking up" treatment, yes.

So I guess Hatton only got a fight against the number 1 fighter in the world, who fights one division above him, because he's American.

Wait a minute, Hatton isn't American, yet he still got a shot. But I guess Hopkins should thank his lucky stars that he's American. No way should the ring champ at LW be able to secure a fight with Winky Wright.

Hatton has a shitload of fans, that is why he got the fight. Plus when he actually fights he has genuine talent. Hopkins was quality, but if he was Dutch I doubt he would have got what he has. Its not like he has millions of paying fans.

Hatton was overrated and overhyped and fought at the wrong weight. He got a shot at Mony May because it was a big money fight and because Mayweather would much rather fight a smaller man than Cotto - the man he should be fighting, for a LOT of money.

Winky, would not have fought two divisions over his ideal weight if Hopkins had been some Columbian...no.

    Anyway, let's drop it!:good

No, I'm sick of foreign posters claiming every American fighter is only getting opportunities because of their nationality. There are plenty of non American fighters who get all types of opportunities they don't deserve. If simply being an American was such an advantage, then people like yourself wouldn't be dismissing Cunningham as a waste of time in regards to fighting Haye. As far as Floyd goes, he's still relatively young. There's still plenty of time for him to kick Cotto's ass. He's not like Calzaghe who waited until he was 34 to win a real belt and stop defending his paper WBO title against bums.

    Decebal,

My guess is that you don't live in America?

Because i think if you did for a sustained period of time like i and others have, you would understand that America is different from any other country in the sense that we are not all caught up in what nationality a person is because there is so much diversity here. I am not American myself but come from another country.

I think you are overestimating the race factor in America. People aren't caught up in that stuff.

Thank you for talking to the 5.8 billion people on this planet that are not American like utter fools. Your naivity reinforces many things I try to put down as stereotypical. Thank you.

I'm being naive and arrogant for stating that one needs to live in this country for a sustained period of time to know what it's like?

I did mention that i'm not even American right? I'm not even Euro for Christ Sakes. So i have my own little country where i come from. It's different here. Just trust us when we say this.

They aren't American, that is my point!!!:deal

And if a 42 yr old MAB, PAC, or Morales, beat up the lineal champ at 140 at the time, and did so in brutal fashion, they would automatically be put in the P4p top 10.
