Why does it matter that Ward always fights in his hometown?

He'd kick your ass in Oakland or Tokyo. There is no difference in where you fight and there really is no such thing as home advantage in boxing. Vitali always fights in Germany but when he fought with crowds that were against him it didn't change anything (In Poland vs. Adamek or in the US vs. Arreola). That's just a modern example and it really applies to many fighters past and present.

If Oakland is where the money is at, why not fight there? It's not Ward's fault that his challengers can't come up with enough money to fight him somewhere else.

There's a big difference. Not one fighter in the s6 won in their opponents hometown. Not one.

Think about it. Travel 6-9 timezones to a completely different environment. It takes a while to get the sleepingpattern right so your training is not optimal. Etc.etc.etc.

Just an argument that people use when they know skills could not carry them.

    I don't think it matters.

He's the champion and the challenger should travel to him to take the belt. I don't see why Ward should travel around the world putting his title on the line. That's my opinion though!

Neither Los Angeles or Atlantic City are his home town. Both require getting on a jet.

That said, if Andre and Froch both had to get on jets, which destination would have changed the outcome of the fight? Answer: none.

If Andre and AA both had to get on jets, to a spot filled with AA supporters (and me), which destination would have changed the outcome? Answer: none.

I don't think it matters with Ward because he wins easily.. It's not like he's got any home town decisions.. He usually wins 10 or 11 rounds..

He doesn't. He fought in his hometown only 5 times. Beyond that the critique is used by haters to try and diminish him.

He does win a lot wider on the cards in his hometown as he should, and gets away with breaking almost any rule in the book (headbutts, elbowing, holding hitting etc).

That said, he would have won those fights anyway.

He should fight outside the US a couple of times, but very few Americans do.

No issue with him fighting at home now that he's the man at 168, and a decent draw at home. In the S6 it was simply a question of fairness, everyone got to fight in someone else's hometown. It was strange he got the special treatment having tied Dirrell for the least credentials coming in.

Ward outclasses his opponents so badly it really doesn't matter if he fights in Oakland or the moon.

if you look at who fought who, then it is not surprising. Froch and Kessler had a real close fight, Froch and Kesler were dominated by Ward.

Fighting at home only benefits a person if the fight is competitive and close, as seen in Froch and Kessler fight, or Froch and Direll, which if it was in Direll's hometown might have gone his way.

All the other fights were no brainers, once Taylor, who was already past his best fell by the wayside, Abraham was exposed. It didn't matter where he fought, he was going to lose to all of the real elite SMW's.
