Why does it seem like more competitive fights in lower weight classes get made more often?

Is it me or does it seem like more competitive fights get made more often in the lower weight classes like flyweight and so on?

It just seems like the small guys in the top 10 in the lower weight classes fight each more often, duck less, take on more challenging fights. Like you had Vargas fight Salido, Frampton fight Quigg & Santa Cruz, Lomachenko fight Martinez, Gonzalez fight McArroyo and now Cuadras. The only exception being Walters & Rigondeaux. I feel like the small guys are more macho, more brave and are willing to fight for glory and belts, not fight as businessmen. Seems like there's less cherrypicking going on.

It also seems like the bigger and heavier weight classes you go, you see more and more ducking and top fighters avoiding each other. In welterweight, the only fight made this year with 2 top 10 guys squaring off was Thurman-Porter and that fight got delayed; and had some skeptics it wouldn't happen. Same with light heavyweight, Ward-Kovalev. Even though it's announced officially now, there are still lots of people who feel Ward will pull out and same in heavyweights, I don't think Fury/Klitschko 2 might happen or some "injury" crap will happen.

    Does anyone feel this way?

They are fighting for bragging rights and a ham sandwich. There is no money at those weight classes, so there is a lot less drama and protecting records. Also, the lower weight classes are usually heavy in Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Nicaraguans etc. They don't speak English. They don't fight in America where all the paydays are. They wouldn't be draws here if they did. So it doesn't make sense for them to "let a fight simmer" as De La Hoya has put it, in the hopes of making more money.

    Unfortunately this is true.
I'm a huge fan of the smaller weight classes and it's a real shame they don't get more exposure and say HW or even WW. Wonder why that is...

They hardly get paid for fighting the best. And nothing for squashing cans.
