Why does Juan Diaz, Peterson brothers make sound effects when they punch?

Juan Diaz is always grunting after every punch he throws. And then there's the Peterson Bros, who can't stop yelling "BOP!" after each punch (even jabs!)..

What is with that? Does that annoy anyone else? Does grunting present some kind of advantage for them? Psychological effect on the judges? :huh

they were in gym for the first time and they saw the back of this big muscular black bloke , beating seven kinds of **** out of a heavy bag and during every punch there was a loud
    AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
and they were impressed and decided to copy that approach.

it was only last year they were told that the bloke was in fact serena williams

Did you notice L. Peterson doing faints by moving as if he were gonna throw a jab and just yelling "BOP BOP" lol it was kinda funny actually.

I think its annoying in the first few rounds then you can kinda get used to it...but yeah i can see how it can drive people crazy although its a little different with Juan Diaz because his style is very exciting and you really don't care much about it.

Man, I laughed my ass off. Maybe he is inventing a new feint. The verbal feint. Throw the guys timing off with the "Bops!". Makes sense as they can time your bops when you punch. Like ok, he say "bop" thats a jab. If he say "Zap" thats a left hook to the body. So on and so forth.

hatton used to do it. apprently is not a good thing to do because it exerts more energy.

Some fighters are making a louder than usual sound while exhale, others don't. Almost every boxer make a sound while exhale but most of the time you can't hear it. The main thing is to get rid of the used oxigen as quick as you can and always exhale while punching and while doing that some of them are making a sound as the air quickly going through the voice cords.

Run 20 miles and you will make stupid sounds. It's the same and some boxers used to make the sound anyway. Help keeping your rythm. Can be annoying, but at least Diaz' voice became a little deeper lately.

(It does not necessarily use more energy)

Probably the way they were trained. Lots of goofy training methods out there, especially among the old-school superstitious lot.

All three sound like little yapdogs barking, it's charming for about three rounds and then I want them to be brutally KTFO.

I actually started making sounds when I punch. We noticed that sometimes I would hold my breath on certain combos. Its a major improvement. Bop..Bop..............Bop.Bop LOL

Doesn't it take more effort to force a sound through your vocal chords than to simply exhale though? :huh

Maybe you, Diaz, and the Petersons just need to look into some Eastern breathing techniques. :good

I was laways told to shout when i struck the bag when i was little.

The reason being this is the easiest way to force air from your lungs. When you become more used to it you can become used to doing it and stop shouting or lower the tone. Alot of fighters make the high tsssssss noise like a pressure release valve when thye srtike.

Also it is basic practice to shout after every punch in most martial arts like karate etc for this reason.
