i know the obvious....to make his opponents punch so that he can counter...but what are the other reasons...he seems to mix it up a lot when tagged, so obviously his style of countering is counter productive since he does get hit a lot...... roy jones fan, maybe ???
Few of the advantages of fighting with your hands down is, weird angles, quicker reaction, harder punches (because of the larger swing) and better balance... it's also lighter for your arms. The obvious downside is lack of defence, but if your reaction is quick enough and you can take a decent punch the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I always fought with one arm dangeling by my side.
his ring IQ is now one of the best. hope he puts in a WOW performance. i dont normally like guys who dont speak english and i have to read subtitles, but this **** is epic, hope its a great fight. hopefully theres a KAYO
He's an athletic guy who started boxing late in life (relative to other professionals) so adopting a non traditional style that relies on athleticism and speed probably felt natural to him.
The problem with his style is that. It will catch up with him sooner or later. I agree with the reasoning though, I too fought with my hands low and paid for it from time to time.
I recall Kellerman saying Martinez was a fan of Jones. I'm guessing its just something he feels comfortable with. Shows his opponent something different and opens up different angles I guess.
Because Martinez looks flashy and athletic compared to the goofy looking no special effects straight up and down keep you hands up look and follow like a moron.
Is Sergio a natural Lefty, Or does he just feel comfortable in that stance? (Strong hand being the lead)
