On October 12, 2004, writer Sam Kellerman (brother of boxing analyst Max Kellerman) was murdered. (His body was found on October 17). Butler was considered a suspect; he had been friends with Kellerman for ten years.

On October 20, Butler, accompanied by a lawyer, sought treatment for his alleged bipolar disorder.

Butler was arrested for the Kellerman slaying on October 27, and two days later, he plead not guilty to murder and arson. He was held on $1.25 million bail. Prosecutors claimed that Butler, the only suspect in the case, repeatedly struck Kellerman in the head with a hammer, then torched Kellerman's Hollywood, California apartment in an attempted coverup.

On July 8, 2005, a Los Angeles judge ruled that there was sufficient evidence for Butler to stand trial on the charges of murder and arson.

On March 27, 2006, Butler pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and arson in the 2004 death of Kellerman. On April 5, Butler was sentenced to 29 years, four months in prison by Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, according to Deputy Public Defender Jack Keenan.

The suspected motive for the murder was that Kellerman was forcing Butler to move out of Kellerman's apartment. Butler, who was struggling to revive his career and suffering through a difficult relationship with his girlfriend and child, picked up a hammer and killed Kellerman.

Roy Jones is a great color man and boxing commentator as is Ward. They need to get rid of Kellerman. He has never boxed and one could tell how exasperated Jones was getting with Kellerman's idiotic comments during the Korobov fight. Jones could see the subtle moves Korobov was using during the fight and was giving credit where credit was due. Kellerman just kept repeating stupid stuff, like it is a good win but not great. Just stupid irrelevant nonsense. Kellerman just sucks at commenting. The team of Lampley, Ward and a Roy Jones would be superb. Three true professionals informing the fans what is actually transpiring in the ring. Lampley is not in their league knowledge wise but he brings excitement to the broadcast and has a great voice and delivery. Kellerman got his job via connections.

 

Simple, it has to do with the one drop rule.

 

This thread was sure a blast from the past. In all honesty: I cannot help but wonder if Max Kellerman would do anything different if he could get a do over with the whole Butler relationship?

Would he simply stay clear of the man or would he give it another go, thinking he could somehow change him and this time prevent the inevitable?

 

Don't get the constant hate for Killerman. Not saying he is Al Beinstein but he's a decent color analyst. People need to quit being burthurt over small things.

 

I wouldn't go so far as to say he loves them, but he doesn't hate Asian boxers like GGG and Ruslan the way he hates whites like Korobov, Calzaghe and the Klitschkos.

 

Give me Paulie, Roy and Antonio Tarver any day of the week.
