Why does Mayweather constantly avoid saying Cotto's name or talking about him at all?

    Even when he's asked DIRECT questions in interviews he either tries to avoid it or even when he does reluctantly say a word or two he rarely if ever actually says Cotto's name, as if somehow refusing to say it will keep Cotto from existing -- sort of a childish 'if I refuse to see you, you're not there!' mentality.

    Don't get me wrong, I would actually pick Mayweather to BEAT Cotto, but why on earth does he keep dodging and diving around the issue?

    Soon Cotto will have to resort to dressing up and singing this to get Mayweather's attention:

    Mayweather called out cotto back in 05' but cotto said no. Cotto's jus wants a big payday. If you know boxing styles make fights and cotto's styles favors mayweather. Mayweather by TKO 11

    Its horrible man. Notice hes been doing the same with Mosley for awhile now to the toughest fights on paper are something that he has no intrest in. Lets fight DLH who lets face it doesnt seem to be a serious fighter anymore talented yes but hes basically a 1 fight a year guy who gets tired,lets fight Hatton because he called him out ? Mosley ? Margarito ? Cotto ? Do they ring a bell Floyd they are Welterweight Champs and contenders whats wrong with them ? Its possible POSSIBLE hes thinking lets let Cotto beat on Gomez and Margarito and possibly Mayorga this year and make this fight a bit more profitable. Honestly im pulling for Oscar to win the rematch cause he always fights the top guys. We will see Oscar-Cotto or Oscar-Mosley 3 before Cotto-Mayweather or Mayweather-Mosley.

    There was no demand for that fight then back in 05 Cotto was getting hurt by Torres and Corley he hadnt yet become the more complete monster he is now.

    mayweather dont need cotto, mayweather dont need anyone now.they all come to him, funny how things change.there was a time were mayweather called out the same guys that are now calling him out now.

    2 of the guys say the want rematches and then theres shane and cotto.
    mayweather will fight them when he feels like it, some ***** huh lol !

    In there he's not evading anything. Just saying why he's fighting De la Hoya instead of Cotto. "It's the biggest fight in boxing". He means that it will give him more money.

    He is being asked a simple question. They are asking him why he's afraid of Cotto. He's saying that he's not afraid of Cotto.


    Ok, this leaves me with a big "WTF". I have no explanation. Edit: my only explanation is that this is similar to the question above, and Mayweather has already said that he is not afraid of Cotto.

    He's not saying "yes" or "no". I don't like this answer. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    damn shame. i've always liked mayweather cos he is the most talented boxer today but lately he's been disappointing boxing fans by not proving that he is #1 at welterweight and p4p. if he really loves the sport, then he should man up and accept cotto's challenge rather than beat hoya 2nd time. he's losing his credibility by clowning around in WWE:-(

    Mayweather never called Cotto out...that's pure bull****. Everybody knows that when asked PBF said that Cotto was too green for him even to consider fighting...since then Cotto has become a monster and now Floyd shits himself whenever anyone mentions Cotto's name.

    See, even though you could reasonably argue that he's not evading anything in the early questions, his answers still ring oddly. He's being DIRECTLY asked about a specific individual, and he replies with vague stuff like 'I'm not afraid of anybody'. Even when he finally DOES say the name the answer is odd, because, like you said, there's no clear 'yes' or 'no'. It's all just very strange and it stands out clearly.

    cotto. what a *****! it seems that even if the PRICE is right he would rather create excuses to avoid him
