Most here rank Manny Pacquiao P4P no1, but most here also had Marquez beating Pacquaio 1 few months ago. Marquez also has big wins against Barrera and a good resume at 126. So why does no one rank JMM P4P no1??
he ranks high on most list. some have him as high as #3 just behind calzaghe and his die-hard fans have him at #1.
A shot Barrera. You can't say he has a 'good resume' at 126, he's had 3 fights at super-feather, one a loss to Pacman, even though I thought he won but the fact of the matter is the loss is official, a win over a shot Barrera and a win over Rocky Juarez. I'm a fan but his resume isn't as deep as people are led to believe it is, I rank him #3 mainly on the basis that he gave Pacman 2 tough fights, perhaps even won both, and he's the best technical fighter on the planet in my eyes.
B/c even the ones who had JMM beating PAC honestly do not believe that Juan won. They just can't bring themselves to admit that PAC is the better fighter.....not a better boxer, but plain better fighter period. Plus PAC beat MAB more convinginly.
won over a shot barrera, lost to john at 126...but he definitely ranks within the top 5 of the P4P Rankings imo
I'm a fan of both JMM and Pac, well not really a fan but I don't hold any feelings of animosity towards either, but I thought JMM may of edges the second fight and thought he done enough over the other 11 rounds to win the first fight aswell. I still have Pac over JMM in p4p terms though.
You'd need to have a great resume to be considered P4P No.1. JMM has a good resume, not great. He has not beaten anyone of note except for a faded MAB. Plus the losses to the likes of Chris John and Feddie Norwood further keeps him from the top. And even if you scored both Pac fights to JMM. Its still not enough as by then he would've only beaten a faded MAB and Pac. I don't know how you rank your P4P, but I rank mine through accomplishments/resume and H2H ability. JMM certainly passes the H2H ability assessment but not the accomplishments/resume part. In your eyes, he may have beaten Pac. But simply beating the no.1 P4P fighter does not automatically puts you at the no.1 spot. For example, if Nate Campbell beats Pac, would you automatically put Nate at the no.1 spot just because he beat the no.1 P4P fighter in the world today? You have to have the resume as well to support that status. JMM does not have a great resume at the moment. Give him time and he may have one, though.
Whether or not you think JMM beat Pac, you have to pay attention to the actual record. If it was a blatant robbery, I could see the justification for ranking JMM ahead of Pac, but it wasn't, and the judges found it in Pac's favor. Also, other than two close fights against Pac, what exactly has JMM done in his career? He has good wins against Juarez, Peden, Gainer, and arguably Barerra (who was pretty much shot by then - Pac's second win over him doesn't count for much either), and a couple of losses to tough fighters in John and Norwood. However, only the Juarez win and the second Pac loss were recent. That certainly isn't enough to put JMM at or near #1 for me. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I don't have JMM in my top 5, and I still have Rafael ranked ahead of him (two close losses to a top 10 P4P fighter in a higher weight class, plus 8 good wins during a 6-year winning streak before the trilogy).
As far as pure talent and skill, he may be the best all aorund fighter today. But the official verdicts msut stand, so he doesn't get #1. Really, you could make the case that he should be 52-1 (35), his only loss being the DQ in his pro debut. Saying he beat Pacquiao both times is reasonable ( i had it a draw and then a win for Marquez, by a point), and I've seen the John fight, no way he lost that one. Also could have gotten the nod in first title fight against Norwood. That would mean he has beaten Pacman (twice), Barrera, Gainer, Medina, Juarez, Peden (twice), John, Norwood, and Jainding. You see why so many rate him so high. His talent and skill are undeniable, but in terms of official results, Pac got the decision, so he's #1. I do rate JMM at #2 though. The fight with Casa will prove me right or wrong.
perhaps if he did technically win... A win on your eyes does not matter even if there were thousands of people who had him winning it doesn't matter **** and only the eyes of 3 people are important(the judges). And as if it was that bad, it wasn't sure as hell a clear robbery compared to malignaggi's performances. Pac technically won, and thats all there is to it.
