1 - Brain damage 2 - Broken psyche I think outside factors play a big part though... as in how that fighter takes care of themselves.
Probably depends how he loses If it's a brutal KO, there will be a lot of wear and tear as mentioned above, and probably a big knock of confidence for the beaten fighter. If it's a fight where weaknesses are exposed, then they probably get exploited in future fights
What do you mean by bad fight? As in bad performance; damage taken; the manner of the loss. To give a answer I would need abit more clarity bro.
Also after a fighter is beaten badly he longer becomes a top win according to most boxing people. Unless he was very green or lost to an elite ATG.
A lot of times when a fighter loses we find out that he's just flat out not that great. A solid example is Naseem Hamed when he was profoundly outclassed by Barrera. What happened was Barrera exposed all of his deficiencies and his reputation as an elite fighter was proven to be a false narrative. Sometimes when a fighter loses badly it's because they were unable to handle the step up in class.
I'd say a fight like Kirkland vs Tapia, or Tito Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas. They said that both Tapia and Vargas were ruined after those fights. Basically where a fighter got beat down and stopped. Lacy vs Calzaghe. Etc.
I hate how boxers are written off so quickly or are overhyped just because of their last performance, especially when they're in there against a stylistic threat. It seems with Brook, it was two fights. His orbital bone breaks are pretty severe and make him an anomaly in this sense. I don't see him as being able to beat the best at Welterweight anymore because of this.
Agreed. Obviously a fighter will lose momentum after a bad loss. But look at Porter. He lost a razor thin decision vs Thurman, and after beating Porter hes no 1 contender for the belts. I guess it depends on how bad the beating is. Lemuiex was dominated by GGG but fought his way back to contention with his 4 straight wins.
Well a fight, win or loss can take a lot of a fighter not just physically but mentally. An example of a fights taking a lot of someone is the Vargas vs Salido and Vargas vs Muira fight, after that fight you saw how Berchelt was the fresher man against Vargas. Groves vs Froch 2, the two fights really damaged Groves mentally, he has never looked the same since those two fights.
So do you mean ruin a fighter as in public perception or ruin a fighter in how good a boxer he is? I see some boxers losing their psyche. How a fighter loses a fight defines him. I wonder how Floyd would have reacted to a loss. I know some will say he has lost in the mind of some fans but not in his mind. In his mind he is the best fighter that has ever lived. It would have been interesting if he didn't get the first Castillo nod.
