This is simply ridicouslous, he was out for 4 YEARS so he did not earn it. All the great champions of the past like Holmes and Foreman fought their way back to the championship.

By making him the emeritus champion the WBC is acting as if Vitali is some kind of Mohammed Ali. This is a disgrace for guys who have to fight hard to earn a title shot.

Who has this guy beaten anyway to be treated that way, he is not even in the Hall of Fame. This is just another example of how incompetent and corrupt those sanctioning bodies are these days.

Why does he get a shot? He was promised by the WBC a shot at the title whenever he decided to return. Yeah, that pretty much means he could hold up the division forever if he wanted but, but the WBC gave him that right. They should've added some kind of stipulation where he had to use it before the privilige expired.

I completely agree with the author. Vitali simply doesn't earn any special treatment by the WBC. He should have fought a couple of times before being given a shot at the title. He already hold up guys like Peter, McCall, Gomez because the WBC deliberately kept their n°1 position on hold by organizing and endless number of elimination bouts. While, I don't question Vitali's status as a deserving former champ, I can't help asking myself what motivates the WBC to give him privileges that no other former champion got in the past...

You made some nice points, there is no way Quitaly should be mandatory after being inactive for more than 4 years, end of story.

Never discuss with members who give boxers names like "Quitaly, Steelbung, Gayweather..." because they won´t discuss the only want to spread hatered.

He's the WBC emeritus champion. That means he's guarenteed a shot at the title.

Unlike some other threads, this has been up to this point at least an objective discussion with some valuable points. Well, obviously you are short of arguments why Quitaly should get a title shot against Peter in October.

This is a Boxing Forum, so do not be childish and get offended by the name "Quitaly".

Vitaly was considered the undisputed no. 1 when he retired. I think it is ok in a situation like that to give the returning champ a chance.

It doesn't matter much though because any former undisputed champ would have gotten (and has gotten) a shot at a title very soon after coming back, and if WBC did not have this rule Vitaly would just have come back and gotten a shot anyway.

Former champs would not have gotten a title shot without any tune up fights to get into the WBC rankings. I am talking about the likes of Foreman and Holmes and not Quitaly. I only agree with you that their reputaion would have helped them to get a title fight more quickly

For me it is not an OK situation, why does vitaly get favoured over the other former champs? I have never seen the WBC use the status emeritus champ for any other boxer, so why this special treatment?
If Mayweather comes back, should he also be an emeritus champ, it is pretty obvious where all this is going as this is not an objective rule.

I think Klitschko should've have been given the permission to come back and fight for the WBC title right away for 1 year after he retired, max. 18 months.
4 years is definitely too much, especially because he already made 2 attempts at coming back before but couldn't get past training camp, thus delaying the chances of the fighters who earned their shot at the title by winning, climbing the ranks and fighting eliminators.
I have nothing against Vitali Klitschko, be he should at least have been obliged to fight a title-eliminator first. This situation is/was simply unfair to other fighters like JC Gomez or Oliver McCall.
