They had worse divisions and neither managed to keep their 0.

They had worse divisions and each avoided at least one major fighter.

One of the very most dominant champions in heavyweight history. Number 3.

4 years of brutal dominance is much better than 5-7 years of doing alright as champ.

From a legacy standpoint, Marciano's undefeated record, dominance as a champion and high KO percentage warrant his being rated in the top 5 in my eyes. On a head to head basis in fantasy matchups however, I believe him to be overrated as hell.

Who says Maciano didn´t beat his Ali? Those fighters could have done it. Perhaps. Marciano did it. Fact. That´s the difference. You may continue foming your opinion based on assumptions and speculation and what may have happend in an alternative reality, I continue foming mine based on what actually happened. :thumbsup

Probably not quite unright but still not completly right, if you know what I try to say here, my dear Mr. Ears.

The reason why I have a hard time putting Holmes over Marciano imo.

He was white, undefeated, knocked out black men, a natural tenor, played the sax at an advanced level, was a fantastic rock n roll dancer, and invented the blender. Now I challenge you name 10 Heavyweights that can compete with that resume?

"The Rocker" is top-15 at best..... His 49-0 (43) KO's record is legendary, but also overrated largely...

    I rate Marciano either at # 11 or # 12...

I don't make lists without qualifiers or with broad undefined qualifiers like "Greatest". Head to head, I don't rank him as high as other heavies. I think he would have major problems with the superheavies a decades after his reign. In terms of legacy and dominance in his own era (the latter being the most important qualifier) I rank him very high, right around 4 or 5. And in pound for pound terms (as a 185 pounder) I rank him extremely high. I would not bet on another sub-190 pounder to beat him, perhaps not even a sub-200 pounder.

It's freaky, I could see him ranked 3-11 and not really be bothered. He's a cracking fighter, and like PP says, he's the second man to dominate his era so completely. He's the real deal. A great fighter.

  13. He was never defeated that's why. He was very small and he reigned solely supreme for a long time. He was certainly disproportionately strong. He knocked the teeth out people and that double left hook...wow!
He was a great champion and he deserves respect.
    You are a **** huh?

He went undefeated and knocked out great fighters. It's difficult to argue against that.
