I agree. I mean if Valuev had another hundred pounds of weight he wouldn't be any more successful against Haye imo. And maybe Briggs lacks the basic fundamentals to defeat a legend like Moore. But you yourself favourite Ibeabuchi over Patterson.
it's called cruiserweight but with a 24 hour "weigh in" it is still heavyweight. The thing that is new is SuperHeavyweight. A largely artificial weight class mostly possible because of rule and equipment changes as well as advances in diet and PED's. yes how can we forget. Don't worry kid, the best lessons are the ones you learn the hard way. hold onto that for the next time your feeling hasty. We all make mistakes. Proven Greatness can be a great size equalizer versus unproven youngsters. Peace.
There's always been big men. One of the biggest in history was Willard. It wasn't learnt a hard way, I watched a fight, gathered more data and adjusted my line of thinking. Who's to say I won't change my mind again in the future? I have no issues changing my mind on how I view a fight. The issue I have with you is you have very limited comprehension when it comes to conversation. You quite often ignore parts of posts and misquote others. An example of that is shown on this very thread. I gave you a list of victories within the LHW division achieved by Charles and you ignored it. That's why I spent a week laughing at stuff you say, I find it hard to take anything you say seriously. Your fixation with the SHW evolution is reminiscent of MAG's obsession with Duran. Not sure why I decided to reply to you today, probably cos you were so wrong about Charles.
Apart from very tall guys it's almost impossible to tell who would be a natural heavyweight Now, whatever that is. There is so much artificial weight in Boxing now. It's got nothing to do with people getting bigger, it's to do with how people train and artificially enhance their size now. Does size matter? Yes it does. But it matters more now because of how much more functional the excess weight is compared to how functional excess weight used to be. It used to be that weight slowed a fighter down. When gloves were smaller there was less leather to shield and parry blows so it took more effort for the big guy to avoid getting hit. There were three extra Championship rounds. It was considered that the lighter a fighter was the faster he would be. That's all changed. So many factors favoured lighter faster skilled fighters. The reason why excess weight is functional now is two fold. First if every heavyweight is artificially enhanced one way or the other where is the handicap if Both guys carry the same excess? Secondly interval training, fighting in short explosive spurts suits this era of over developed fighters. Nobody is born to look the way fighters and sportsmen look now. If you don't believe me check out the US military weight requirements. Every height of human is considered with leeway for age taken into consideration. Maximum weight for height for each age group is listed. Very few heavyweights today would make these requirements because they are so over developed. Too heavy for their weight. Alarmingly, 30 years ago the vast majority of world class heavyweights generally met these US army weight requirements. http://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/army-weight-rules.html
It wasn't on this thread kid, it was on the Charles and Bob foster thread. also I answered that. For some reason you listed guys that proved Charles had the better LHW resume than Floyd Patterson after I correctly said both Charles and Ezzard spent a simular time in the division yet Charles is remembered as more of a Lightheavyweight than Patterson. I responded by explaining most of those LHW guys were actually long time heavyweight campaigners, and that I had merely been pointing out Charles was only a Lightheavyweight for a short period like Patterson was.
I was correct about Charles. He was too good for the LHW division, spending just three years there (like Patterson did) although Charles has the better resume because he beat better 180lb heavyweights who used to be lightheavyweights.
The guys he beat weighing within the LHW limit when he fought them or guys he beat that are more remembered as LHWs? You see, most so called Lightheavyweight Charles beat were over 180 when he beat them (Lesnevich, Satterfeild, Maxim, Bivins) and actually within the heavyweight ranks. although Charles beat Moore when Be was within LH.
Not sure how many times you need me to say it. I'll try again though. I gave you a list of men he beat whilst both weighed within the LHW limit.
