Why does size matter?

Bigger guys fight different and at a more steady pace it doesnt mean they are not as good. If you threw 20 pounds on Louis or Ali in the 60's rest assumed he wont be dancing for 15 rnds . The problem is fans think the SHW's should fight like a 190 pounder ? lol

Of course on average a 240 pounder will have to pace himself more ,that is the reason why Wlad had to readjust his pace for example .

I agree with this. The over development of body mass just favours the guy who can carry the most weight. The giants.

All the stuff that gave a smaller guy a fighting chance has been eradicated. What we have now is not a HW division. We have a Primo Carnera division now. And it should be called SHW.

Boxing is not a sport. It is Hand to hand combat.

    You play sports.

    You dont play boxing.

    Remember that.

Thanks. The only thing to add is the skill level has improved with the 6'4" and taller fighters over the years.

I hate the division now, not because the size and the game has changed in favor of the bigger fighters, but because the title fights themselves as sparring sessions vs non top ten opponents. Wilder is an all time belt milker, and so far Joshua has not been better.

Enough already. Molina could be the best both men have faced.

Any sports have rules , go up to a pro fighter and tell them they arent professional sportsman they are just considered hand to hand combatants and see how that goes .

'Thats not all. Most 190 pounders with modern gloves are not big punchers, but half the 240 pounders can hit very hard.

With increased power, you've got to be more careful in there. Fight like they do at 190, and someone getting stopped soon, and it could be the man with the advantages and greater skills.

In the Olympics at super heavyweight, it was full of big guys scoring stoppages. The best of who was Filip Hrgovic, who was badly robbed vs. Tony Yoka, who won gold. Both are 6'5" super heavies with skills

I don't get how you think this is logical and I'm being brutally honest here. Two guys of differing heights and weights will not fight the same style against each other. A big 6'2 guy would be a damn fool to fight on the inside against a 5'8 175 lbr. If a 225 lbr punches like a 175 lbr then he is a featherfist and would get walked down easily because that means his skill is bad too.

Not Boxing. Dempsey was better than any cruiserweight/heavyweight today.

So going by one guy suggests this? lol Are you saying boxing in general was more technical then?

Dempsey fought like he had just came out of a bar who had one too many in comparison to say Holyfield or Tyson a 100% improved version of him. .

Louis should actually be a great example to prove your theory, since he fought a wide range of sizes and weights, while he remained roughly the same size.

And his results simply don't corroborate your stance.

I think Dempsey and Marciano are also good examples, since they fought a wide range of sizes well. And their results also don't support your stance.

I am saying that Dempsey is better than any heavy/cruiser today. Can you not read?

Lol @ you thinking Holyfield resembles Dempsey stylistically. Tyson had nothing in common other than bobbing and weaving/pressure style. Dempsey was a counter puncher who didn't throw many combinations because he didn't need to. One punch was all he needed and you obviously aren't the brightest tool in the shed so you mistaken that for a drunk.

I can't stand people like you who dksab but come on here with your pitiful attempts at discrediting the past atg's. I bet you can't even give an accurate stylistic breakdown of Dempsey. You aren't the first of your kind and you sure as **** won't be the last.

    1. Baer never so much as knocked Louis down from what I remember
    2. Baer was never near 240 once in his entire career.

David Tua knocked out many big guys early in his career.
Yet during the same period, 210lb Hart, and 207lb Wainwright went the distance with him.
And these guys were resume builders.

Things like this, and thousands of other examples is why I scratch my head when people put so much emphasis on size advantages in the HW division.

I think he means Buddy Baer. Who did knock Louis out of the ring, and did weigh 250lb in his rematch with Louis when he got KO'd in the first round..

So the Dempsey you see here is an unskilled bar fighter compared to Tyson?
