Why does some fighters get hated on for not stepping up yet against an 1st class fighter so young in their Career? Fighters like Julio Ceaser Chavez jr and Paulie Malignaggi gets hated on because they haven't fought a 1st class fighter so early in their career. One thing people hate on Paulie saying he didn't fight anybody before Cotto but who fights the top fighters in your first 18 fights and everybody wants Julio to step up and he only 21. A fighter like Hatton fought 41 pro fights before he step up. Why does some fighters get hated on for not stepping up so quick and other fighters don't?
Chavez is living in his fathers shadow, and the expectation for him to be great is probably higher than other fighters of his age. And people are naturally going to suspect his record is padded purely due to his name. Malignaggi stepped up, against Cotto - and he almost got himself killed, so people are going to assume that he can't hack it at world class level until he fights another fighter at that level and doesn't get destroyed.
He lost a fairly wide unanimous decision and got his face re-arranged in the process. I mean, there's no shame in that and I'm not interested in picking on him - he showed great heart, but he hasn't proved he can fight elite fighters.
In chavez case I don't have a problem with him building experience but I think that his promoters have a lot of balls charging $35.00 per what are basically tune up fights against completly unknown fighters. These fights should be on ESPN or shobox or something like that. If you are going to charge for PPV don't get mad when people want to see you take on a big challenge.
Paulie lost 115-112 and 116-111 and 116-111 but I agree he's shown that he's a good young champion but he hasn't proved he is a top fighter in the game but I don't understand the hate for a young champion that hasn't step up other than the Cotto fight. Give the guy more fights to say he's a bum and I don't understand people saying he sucks when he only lost 1 fight.
Theres no reason why Chavez jnr needs to rush his career. He's only 21 with little amateur experience.Andy Lee has been cathing some flak recently for the same reasons but he said it is very difficult to find the right opponent
