Why does this boxer not get enough respect?

I've only seen a handful of posters on here give Kalambay the respect he deserves.

 

Come off it Booze, he was nigh on technically perfect.

 

McCallum/Watson was a ridiculously high quality fight. Michael Watson must have put on one of the best losing performances ever whilst being essentially schooled most of the way. Its not often you lose nearly every round (I think 4 is debatable) and get systematically broken down in every area and still come out with reputation enhanced.

 

Watson tried too hard IMO. He'd been better off playing a game of cuties with Mike IMO.

But yes, absorbing fight. Watson put in a strong effort but Mike was just a little too clinical. Battered him at the end.

Kalambay and Graham both won a fight each IMO.

Great era for middleweight.

 

Watson was a little uptight initially, crowd and pressure (he was the favourite) got to him I think. But he did settle down a little in the middle rounds and they were a little better. When you set that kind of frenetic pace in a close quarters technical fight the details are going to matter, McCallum just had that slightly better defence where he gets less squared on and knows how to roll punches instinctively, along with the fact he counterpunched immensely. All little skills that set him apart and allowed him to last better, along with the fact he was undoubtedly more relaxed.

Watson was still technically better than 99.9% of our boys though.

 

Loved his style. Green or not, Benn was big favourite over Watson and Michael dismantled him, his earmuff defence looking watertight and his punches knocking The Dark Destroyer about.

Dropped him with a jab IIRC. Watson was ace.

 

McCallum and Kalambay are both great fighters who arent recognised by most average fans on esb however they get plenty of respect.
