A fighter getting knocked out doesn't diminish what he accomplished in his prime. That's why Roy Jones Junior is still considered an all-time great and he was knocked out cold more times than Tyson was.

No but it's accurate to say Jones had a poor chin.

his style demanded he had a great chin. Often absorbing it in order to land his own.

Great chin sure. But ATG? cant be sure of that at all.

I was recently watching Tyson against Ratliff in 86 when Mike was apparently at his best and imagining Holyfield in there, Evander beats any version of Tyson for sure in my eyes.

So anyone who disagrees with you are thick as ****? That would apply to just about everyone here then.

Damn, it should be made illegal here to post on a empty head.

Edit: I actually delete the post I originally posted here about my theory about your Tyson obsession because even I'm starting to feel sorry for you.

I cannot agree with that. Holyfield was rocked by Cooper. Tyson never would have been. Holyfield had better recuperation, but Mike took a better single punch. And Ruddock did not fight under the same stress and level as Mike. No Bonecrusher or Tucker, and he lost to Holmes.

Take a shot to give a shot? Thats not his style, youre thinkin of Frazier or Rocky. Tyson himself said he "took the least amount of damage compared to most other HW champions" BECAUSE of his style. It was an interview on youtube, trying to find it.

Patterson also used Tysons style, trained by the same man, and used it effectively enough to win 2 belts. Incidentally, he did not have a great chin.

Whilst I was aware, probably (though I cant be for sure) before you were born, that tyson's style was built around shifting the angle of his body and momentum constantly to catch his opponent out, he would invariably take scuffed shots before landing his own against larger men with larger reaches.

Also, I wouldnt take his word for it, he got hit plenty. He was just good at reducing their impact - I think thats what he means surely.

People on this forum need to realise that in heavyweight boxing anyone can get knocked out. Anyone with an actual glass chin would not be able to make it to the level the likes of Tyson and Lewis made it to. If someone younger and weaker than me hits me CLEAN on the chin when I am off balance and not expecting it I can get knocked out that's just human anatomy.

Tyson is overrated in every other way possible but he deserves it; he set boxing on fire during his time.
