If Bert Cooper smashed anyone upside the head a few times they'd be rocked. Cooper was no joke. He hit Holyfield 3 or 4 consecutive right hands to the temple to properly rock him, then another 2 or 3 to put him over.
Anyone would have been in serious trouble after catching that lot.

that is the style of fights. Tyson would have demolished Cooper in 2 or 3 rounds if not sooner.

That doesn't mean Tyson would hurt or knockdown Holyfield at all though does it?

Yes, but we're talking about punch resistance.
If Tyson was hit like that by Cooper he'd be in serious trouble, just like any man.

You're wrong, Tyson can never get hurt by punches. He only gets knocked out because he's tired didn't you know............

I don't see a Cooper punch hurting Tyson that much.

My oh my so apparently Tyson has better punch resistence than Holyfield now? Even though Holyfields chin held up better against common opponents and monstrous punchers who tyson somehow avoided?

Nah, i wasnt saying he "almost never" got hit, just that his peakaboo style and constant shifting of weight, bobbing, weaving, etc meant that he made himself an even smaller target when he was already short for a heavyweight.

Against his subpar competition, mostly mediocre fighters on drugs or past their prime boxers lacking speed, it meant most of the punches they tagged him with were glancing blows. And the fact Tyson has so many early round knockouts means he obviously didnt get hit as often as other fighters who werent blessed with the same reflexes or a trainer who insisted on a tight guard

Tyson certainly didn't get hit much at all prior to Douglas. Between his superb peek a boo defense and more than the odd fightened rival he was quite elusive. Many didn't open up much, scared to leave them selves open. Such was the power and intimidation of Tyson at that point.

True. His defense was pretty tight

I do remember him getting hit by a big left uppercut by Tony Tucker that momentarily stopped him in his tracks, but he took it well and recovered quickly.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1989/07/19/sports/notebook-former-corner-men-put-knock-on-tyson.html

Bruno hit him with a few big shots in their first fight. That was the fight where Tyson's defense first looked a bit suspect. Not suprisingly, it was his first fight without Rooney in the corner.

Although unrelated to this thread, Rooney made a statement about Tyson dumping his corner team which prooved prophetic,

''This whole thing, it's bad karma, and sooner or later it's going to come back to Tyson,'' said Rooney. ''Maybe not this time. But sometime, somehow. You can't do that. You don't treat people like that.''

Great post mate. It was actually sizable news when Tyson got hit solidly enough to stop in his tracks as it was just so uncommon. The Tucker uppercut was big news as were Bruno's spurts of landing. You are right, Tyson was below par suddenly vs Bruno.

Apparently what took place in reality has no bearing on Tyson's chin rankings, it doesn't matter that he got knocked spark out. All that matters is that in their heads Tyson has the better chin.

In the Tyson KO thread you argued furiously that Tyson had never sparked anyone out except Frazier, including Holmes in your argument of all people yet here you are saying Tyson got "knocked spark out" :nut:
