Why does Vitali get a pass despite being a proven drugs cheat?

I just couldn't get behind a fighter who would take an illegal substance to increase their strength in order to punch another man in the face. In my eyes it's despicable, reveals a lot about the character of a person and shows their true moral fibre.

In my eyes, if he's capable of doing it once then he's capable of doing it again - he clearly couldn't be trusted the first time round, so why should he be trusted again?

I think if you're caught taking PEDs then you should be banned from life. Vitali should be written out of the history books, as should other fighters who have cheated.

I started this thread to provoke a genuine discussion, and to find out why this man is respected despite proving himself to be a scumbag of the lowest order. However, I expect that instead we'll just see his fans rabidly defending their guy, offering up the same pathetic excuses that all athletes resort to when they get busted.

I don't want to hear excuses from his fans, he is a proven cheat - no amount of pathetic 'yeah, buts . . .' are going to change that. What I want to know is how can you support such a disgraceful cheater.

EDIT: I've just been looking at some pictures of Vitali, and it's pretty clear to me that his head has grown in size - particularly around the time of his retirement and comeback.
